Glen and I go way back, and by way back, I mean a little over a year now, hehe.

      • http://www.viperchill.com Glen Allsopp

Haha, that’s quite a lot for internet years ;)

  • http://www.extraincomedaily.com Fred @ Extra Income Daily

Great podcast Pat. Glenn is one of the best.

  • http://www.smalldogtrainingetc.com D’MarieF

    Pat,
Thanks for the excellent podcast & especially for taking the time to include a list of all the links for items mentioned PLUS a transcript. The fact that you go to such lengths to cover all the bases always makes me feel appreciated.

Quick question for you or Glenn (or both) – is there any cause for concern if all the competitors for page 1 on Google are static sites rather than blogs? It’s a niche I’m passionate about and the keyword research went well, but in looking at the competing sites for my chosen phrases, I’ve noticed that mine is the only blog.

    Thanks!

    • Pat

Actually, and I’ll let Glen chime in here when he has the time – apparently he’s watching Toy Story, I think you have an advantage because Google loves blogs and the constantly fresh content that they produce. People like blogs too, and will constantly come back to them as opposed to a static site as well, so don’t think of it as a disadvantage, think of it as an advantage, as long as you can consistently produce excellent content that people will link to and love. Cheers!

  • http://www.my4hrworkweek.com Eric | My 4-Hour Workweek

Super motivating stuff here, Pat. This was a great review of Glen’s older blog post about how he works with niche sites, and it was nice to hear him going into some detail about it. Looking forward to your future podcasts.

    - Eric

    • Pat

Thanks Eric – I appreciate it. I read that post, and knew there was a lot more we could talk about here on the show. Woot!

    • http://www.viperchill.com Glen Allsopp

      Hey Eric,

Really glad that you found it motivating. Happy to be a part of it :)

  • http://www.marsdorian.com/ Mars Dorian

    haha, awesome Pat,

Glen is freaking awesome when it comes to affiliate sites, and his knowledge is priceless. I’m a huge fan of his blog, and I’m glad he’s sharing his magic here in your podcast.

    Cool.
    Cool kick-ass
    Cool Kick-ass series

    Pat.

    Keep rocking

    • Pat

Thanks for listening Mars, it was awesome to have Glen on the show. More to come!

  • http://www.markbell.me.uk Mark Bell

Cheers Pat! What I got from this is something I’d been wondering myself for a while – the power of your TLD in the SERPS, and the choice of domain name. I’m in the middle of putting together a rebrand for my site, including a new domain, and I managed to get a TLD (.com) with my first keyword – fingers crossed all goes well.

I really like the suggestion about searching for who your competitors backlinks are. I’ll have to try that out.

    • Pat

Awesome Mark! Did you find that open or did you have to purchase it from somebody?

  • http://www.yieldtohappiness.com Stacey

Great information! And I have to say I could listen to Glen’s accent all day! :)

I’m off to zoom through some article creation with IAF and submit to a few directories.

    • http://www.viperchill.com Glen Allsopp

Haha. It’s a weird mix between English and South African.

It used to sound way cooler ;)

    • Pat

I could too, but then my wife might have second thoughts about me :P

  • http://ineeddiscipline.com Dean Saliba

Thank you. I am starting to look into getting my hands on some MMO related podcasts as the few comedy ones I listen to seem to be closing down.

    • Pat

Hey Dean – I’m curious. Which ones were you listening to before?

  • http://www.sportbikebliss.com Rod

Great info as always! Thanks Pat

    • Pat

      Cheers Rod!

  • http://www.viperchill.com Glen Allsopp

    Hey Pat,

    Thanks again for the interview.

To everyone else, my girlfriend has roped me in to watching Toy Story tonight so I’ll be back to answer questions once it’s over ;)

    Appreciate the comments!

    • Pat

No problem Glen – thank you for being a guest.

As far as Toy Story, I hear it’s a tear jerker. So be ready!

    • http://www.my4hrworkweek.com Eric | My 4-Hour Workweek

I hope you mean Toy Story 3. AWESOME movie.

      • http://www.viperchill.com Glen Allsopp

Yeah I watched Toy Story 3. No tears this side though ;)

  • http://missiondrivenbrand.com Rob Pene

    Great podcast again!

I really enjoy Glenn’s straight up approach of looking at your passions, fears, & frustrations when considering a niche to address. I was doing a lot of reading about keyword research, etc…and I know that its helpful, but I also know that I’d like to stick with and be passionate about a niche site I create.

    Great stuff again homie!

    • Pat

Yep – that’s valuable information right there, especially when he talks about possibly creating your own products for the niche site in the future. I never really thought of that, but you’d have to know something about it in order to get there. Cheers Rob!

  • http://razorfast.com Dan DeFelippi

Great podcast Pat! If you keep getting great guests like Glen you’ll be in the top podcasts in no time.

Most long time podcasters say your first few shows will suck. You must have been practicing a lot in preparation because all 3 episodes have been really good. Not only have you had good content but the quality of your presentation and audio is good.

    • Pat

Thanks Dan – I’ve had a lot of help from expert podcasters, and I really wanted to make sure the quality was good right off the bat. Maybe that’s why it took over 1.5 years for me to finally get it live..i dunno.

Thanks again for your support, and again thanks for your post at http://www.razorfast.com.

  • http://myadventurepath.com Karen

    Thanks Glen and Pat!

What I have been doing to think up topics for niche sites is to think about what topics I have tried searching for in Google in the past, and that I have been frustrated not finding what I was looking for. Then I check to see what keywords are best for that topic. So I have lots of ideas for sites now. My next steps this week are to create the sites and write articles. Fun!!!

    • Pat

Hey Karen – sounds awesome! Keep up in the loop about how things go. Cheers!

  • http://www.unleashreality.com alex – unleash reality

    glen is a legend.

    write that on your mirror.

    that is all

    • Pat

How can Glen be a legend when he’s still alive and doing what he does best? Maybe a legend in the making?

  • http://biggoalhunting.com/ Mike Roberts

haha, love the intro…”Check it!” MC Patty Pat :)

Everything you do is so professional and fun too, I like that man. The transcript is also a nice feature that allows me to read along while I listen and better digest the materiel. This is especially valuable for me, because when I hear techie terms, my mind begins to drift.

    Well done brotha!

Hey Pat! This is the first time that I have listened to your free podcast…I really don’t know what has taken me so long….of course you haven’t been doing them that long, but I can say for sure after listening to this one that I will be back for the next!

Thanks for all the awesome Tips Glen, I will be sure to check out your links as book as well.

    • http://www.viperchill.com Glen Allsopp

You’re welcome Fred, I’m glad you got some value out of it.

  • http://www.jameseustice.com James Eustice

Great episode! I actually listened to it twice today in the car to make sure I didn’t miss anything. This is one of my new favorite podcasts. Thanks Pat!

  • http://www.dawnmarrs.com Dawn

Thanks again for another great episode Pat. Awesome guest and killer content… the only thing I don’t agree with is recommending the free Google keyword tool for people just starting out… doing good SEO work takes way too long to be choosing the wrong keywords, so a program like Market Samurai that removes the guess-work is worth its weight in gold to both new and seasoned marketers.

Thanks once again – can’t wait for the next episode!

  • http://www.tacticalcashflow.com Howie

    Just so you know, Pat…

    I ‘un-liked’ you on Facebook for just a milli-second, only to re-like you, so that I could be your 2,500th fan….LOL…. (errr…maybe it doesn’t work that way…)

Still cool to see SPI growing the way it has.

  • http://www.thenichethinktank.com Larry Clark

I haven’t listened to this yet but I know Glenn is the real deal. love his blog but this will be good I know…

  • http://www.deauxmaingroup.com Bruce – Dallas Marketing

Hey Pat, I really liked this installment of your podcast. I follow Glen’s blog and love his stuff. I especially liked the tips on where to find good affiliate products to promote…never even considered looking there. That alone was worth the listen, but was pleased with all of the nuggets gained from the two of you. Cheers! ~ Bruce

    Hey Pat,

I just found you through iTunes, your new podcast is really cool.

I have taken some time to think about what I can promote and I figured it out, I want to sell airline tickets to a niche location.

But the question I have for you is, what do I talk about in my articles I am writing?
The different locations, the history, local attractions and/or customs?

I also want to make a Youtube video, but I am unsure of what to cover in it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I just finished listening to your podcast and I am ready to get started.

Hope to hear from you soon.

    Mike

I really enjoyed this podcast, but was totally thrown off when you mentioned paying for links.

Everything I’ve read has pointed to that being a black-hat technique and a huge no-no. I know you mentioned only using it for less competitive keywords, but I don’t think that should matter.

Did I hear you right? I’d love to hear some thoughts on that.

Anyways, I am flat broke right now, but full of ideas. I should mention I am from Kenya, came to the country 6 yrs ago, graduated college, and am working as a part time after school teacher. Newly married and expecting, well anyways for my ideas to happen i need money. So from this particular podcast, I saw clickbank, and on it I saw i could do online surveys to start. What do you think? do they actually pay out? Coz it seems way to easy.
