Pat,
Thanks for the excellent podcast & especially for taking the time to include a list of all the links for items mentioned PLUS a transcript. The fact that you go to such lengths to cover all the bases always makes me feel appreciated.

Quick question for you or Glenn (or both) – is there any cause for concern if all the competitors for page 1 on Google are static sites rather than blogs? It’s a niche I’m passionate about and the keyword research went well, but in looking at the competing sites for my chosen phrases, I’ve noticed that mine is the only blog.

Thanks!

Pat August 11, 2010 at 12:50 pm

Reply

Actually, and I’ll let Glen chime in here when he has the time – apparently he’s watching Toy Story, I think you have an advantage because Google loves blogs and the constantly fresh content that they produce. People like blogs too, and will constantly come back to them as opposed to a static site as well, so don’t think of it as a disadvantage, think of it as an advantage, as long as you can consistently produce excellent content that people will link to and love. Cheers!

Cheers Pat! What I got from this is something I’d been wondering myself for a while – the power of your TLD in the SERPS, and the choice of domain name. I’m in the middle of putting together a rebrand for my site, including a new domain, and I managed to get a TLD (.com) with my first keyword – fingers crossed all goes well.

I really like the suggestion about searching for who your competitors backlinks are. I’ll have to try that out.

Great podcast again!

I really enjoy Glenn’s straight up approach of looking at your passions, fears, & frustrations when considering a niche to address. I was doing a lot of reading about keyword research, etc…and I know that its helpful, but I also know that I’d like to stick with and be passionate about a niche site I create.

Great stuff again homie!

Pat August 11, 2010 at 12:54 pm

Yep – that’s valuable information right there, especially when he talks about possibly creating your own products for the niche site in the future. I never really thought of that, but you’d have to know something about it in order to get there. Cheers Rob!

Great podcast Pat! If you keep getting great guests like Glen you’ll be in the top podcasts in no time.

Most long time podcasters say your first few shows will suck. You must have been practicing a lot in preparation because all 3 episodes have been really good. Not only have you had good content but the quality of your presentation and audio is good.

Pat August 11, 2010 at 12:55 pm

Thanks Dan – I’ve had a lot of help from expert podcasters, and I really wanted to make sure the quality was good right off the bat. Maybe that’s why it took over 1.5 years for me to finally get it live..i dunno.

Thanks again for your support, and again thanks for your post at http://www.razorfast.com.

Thanks Glen and Pat!

What I have been doing to think up topics for niche sites is to think about what topics I have tried searching for in Google in the past, and that I have been frustrated not finding what I was looking for. Then I check to see what keywords are best for that topic. So I have lots of ideas for sites now. My next steps this week are to create the sites and write articles. Fun!!!

Thanks again for another great episode Pat. Awesome guest and killer content… the only thing I don’t agree with is recommending the free Google keyword tool for people just starting out… doing good SEO work takes way too long to be choosing the wrong keywords, so a program like Market Samurai that removes the guess-work is worth its weight in gold to both new and seasoned marketers.

Thanks once again – can’t wait for the next episode!

Hey Pat,

I just found you through iTunes, your new podcast is really cool.

I have taken some time to think about what I can promote and I figured it out, I want to sell airline tickets to a niche location.

But the question I have for you is, what do I talk about in my articles I am writing?
The different locations, the history, local attractions and/or customs?

I also want to make a Youtube video, but I am unsure of what to cover in it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I just finished listening to your podcast and I am ready to get started.

Hope to hear from you soon.

I really enjoyed this podcast, but was totally thrown off when you mentioned paying for links.

Everything I’ve read has pointed to that being a black-hat technique and a huge no-no. I know you mentioned only using it for less competitive keywords, but I don’t think that should matter.

Did I hear you right? I’d love to hear some thoughts on that.
