I chose to read Resonate for a couple of reasons. In an attempt to build my public speaking skills, I read any and every book on the topic that I could find.
In the book, Nancy analyzes famous speeches. She takes an almost scientific approach, breaking the speeches down and finding the elements that truly get an audience on the speaker's side. While her approach didn't make speaking sound simple, it did help me make sense of the process. My favorite part of the book is where she breaks down Reagan's speech about the Challenger space shuttle disaster, and also Martin Luther King Jr.'s famous “I Have a Dream” speech.
I was surprised to find how much reading this book has helped to improve my overall communication, not just in business, but also in the rest of my life-with my family, my friends, and even with myself. I tell stories better (and every dad wants to be a good storyteller). I'd highly recommend reading the book. It will get you jazzed up about your next presentation, and turn it from a scary obstacle into an opportunity.Buy the Book on Amazon
