I received this book as a gift from my speaking coach. He thought it would be right up my alley, as I was trying to memorize all of my presentations word-for-word (which isn't recommended). I also mentioned that, while I can memorize a 20 page PDF, I often forget names moments after meeting someone.

Going into the book, I was most interested in learning memorization techniques, but I quickly got caught up in the story Joshua told, first about covering a memory competition as a journalist (yes, memory competitions exist), and continuing on to get into memorization himself, and finally competing in the U.S. Memory Championship. I loved getting into his brain during his training process—I could certainly relate with his struggles.
This book has been so helpful for me, especially for remembering names—a skill that is so important for my growing speaking career and as I attend lots of conferences. It's a great book for learning to think about differently, and to see the powerful abilities our brains possess.
