How to Create a Facebook Page and Landing Page – Updated with Code & PSD Files

How to Create a Facebook PageOne of the most popular blog posts I’ve ever written was THE Blogger’s Guide to Facebook. It has been viewed over 20,000 times and the videos within that post have accumulated over 120,000 views.

Unfortunately, those videos are now outdated. Facebook, as many of you know, loves to update and change things around – so my walkthroughs for creating a Facebook page and creating a Facebook landing page are a bit off.

Several people have requested that I reshoot these videos and publish updated versions.

I just finished, and here they are!

Below, you’ll find updated videos on how to create a Facebook Page, as well as how to create a Facebook Landing Page.

If you have yet to utilize Facebook for your blog or business, you’re falling way behind. There are now over 500 million users active on Facebook and every month people spend a total of over 700 billion minutes on it (see Facebook Statistics).

Craziness.

For me and my own businesses, Facebook has become one of my top traffic sources (2nd only Google), and it has helped me connect with my audience in a way that no other platform has. On my Facebook Page (now 5,060 fans strong) sometimes I can ask for an opinion or pose a question and within minutes I’ll have 10 to 20 responses, and within a day I’ll have up to 50 or 100. In the past, companies would pay top dollar for an honest response from an audience like that, which is exactly why today you’ll see that most companies, big and small, are setup with their own Facebook pages too.

If you haven’t already set one up, now you can – for free!

If you do already have a page, I still recommend that you watch through these videos because I’ve added a few tips and tricks that will maximize your Facebook efforts, and you may end up changing a thing or two (see the image at the very top for a preview).

At the bottom of this post, you’ll also see some downloadables. These are the PSD files that go along with the videos, and the code for your landing page as well.

Enjoy the videos!

If you have a landing page for your Facebook page, even if you’ve already set one up before this post was published, I would love for you to leave a link to it here in the comment section of the blog. This way, we can all get inspired by everyone else’s landing pages and possibly earn the interest of some new fans for your page as well. No advertisements or descriptions necessary please, just a link and any comments about this post or how Facebook has helped your business grow.

Thank you! Cheers!

This was just in time and very helpful. THANKS. I’m a graphic artist and have just been tasked with creating a FB business page for a client. I’m not clear on something though…should I create my clients page using my own personal FB account e-mail address? Once I create the page, I would be finished my job so I am thinking I would then have to add my client as an ‘administrator’ so he could do and changes or updates. Can you advise on how that is typically handled? Thank you for your wonderful and informative info!!

Hello Pat, thank you for this tutorial. It took me a day to configure out everything. I also tried the domain redirecting because I don’t have a Default Landing Tab but it was complicated. Well, I found out you can’t see this feature unless you choose Community or Pages for Business (if you choose Community). You wont have LANDING TABS for page.

My Fb page link is http://www.facebook.com/pages/Raquel-Mitchell/193962463960682. Now, my question is that how would I make this URL short? It says in your video, we will need at least 25 fans. Is that correct? That means I can change it from http://www.facebook.com/pages/xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx to http://www.facebook.com/xxx? I just want to make it sure since /pages/ is a folder itself.

Please help. Thank you.

Thanks…

Hi Richard, you won’t see a like button on your own page since you are the administrator. Plus, those who are already fans of your page will not see the like button either, since they’ve already liked it.

Cheers!

Hi Pat,

I have one Joomla website which have a facebook module installed which allows people to see how many people have already ‘liked’ my website, it is now showing only 2 persons like it. However, the facebook homepage currently has 11 friends. Shouldn’t those 11 friends be synchronised with the number of people who have ‘liked’ in the joomla website?

Great info! Adding a landing page is my next step for our FB page. I’m in a catch-22 with our username – says it’s not available, yet when you type it in the address, it’s a page not found. So I’m stuck using that long, ugly URL. Contacted FB a long time ago, no answer.

I’ll be back with a link to our landing page when I get it done!

Hey Pat, just watched both videos. I’ll definitely be doing that later on today!

I downloaded both files but man my photoshop skills SUCK! I have the new CS5 suite but I really don’t know what to do haha so I’ll definitely have to learn some things. All of the layer stuff throws me off..there’s just soo many tools to use that it’s like PHOTOSHOP OVERLOAD! haha

Anyways great post man. You definitely kept it simple..I was afraid of getting lost but it’s pretty self explanatory. I was checking through the links and there’s some great landing pages. One guy had his landing page include all of the hyper links to connect to his twitter, youtube channel..and then withing it he even had a video..on top of that he made it so that if you didn’t like his page you couldn’t get all the other updates.

What do you think about that?

Good move to kind of entice people to like your page? kind of like “hey like my page so you can see what’s on the other side!”

I think it’s pretty sneaky..alright Pat have a good one brotha!

cheers!

Thanks for all of your hard work on this concept. I really like it and have tried to apply it to my brand new Facebook page for my Mill Village Gallery. BUT, it only works halfway. That is if a non fan goes to my Mill Village Gallery Facebook page they get the correct page, but if a current fan goes there they do not — they just get the normal status page. Can you help in anyway. I know that you are busy, but I just thought that I would ask.

Hi Pat
Your tutorial on creating a landing page was really helpful. I just have one question about the source of the image file in the static HTML welcome section. I copied your code and pasted it in the content box…putting my URL and file name, then I uploaded the file to my host site in the image folder. But I think I’ve missed something because it isn’t working. Could you explain a bit where I should save and upload my graphic file to?

Sorry if this is an obvious question, but it’s my first time doing this and I just can’t figure it out.

Thanks Pat

Tina,
This is happening because you are already a fan of your page. A good way to test it is to log out of facebook and then go to your page and that is how it will load for non-fans. Just the way FB is. If you are a fan of a page you will land on the wall. All you can control is where non-fans go. Kind of a bummer. Hope that helps.
