One of the most popular blog posts I’ve ever written was THE Blogger’s Guide to Facebook. It has been viewed over 20,000 times and the videos within that post have accumulated over 120,000 views.
Unfortunately, those videos are now outdated. Facebook, as many of you know, loves to update and change things around – so my walkthroughs for creating a Facebook page and creating a Facebook landing page are a bit off.
Several people have requested that I reshoot these videos and publish updated versions.
I just finished, and here they are!
Below, you’ll find updated videos on how to create a Facebook Page, as well as how to create a Facebook Landing Page.
If you have yet to utilize Facebook for your blog or business, you’re falling way behind. There are now over 500 million users active on Facebook and every month people spend a total of over 700 billion minutes on it (see Facebook Statistics).
Craziness.
For me and my own businesses, Facebook has become one of my top traffic sources (2nd only Google), and it has helped me connect with my audience in a way that no other platform has. On my Facebook Page (now 5,060 fans strong) sometimes I can ask for an opinion or pose a question and within minutes I’ll have 10 to 20 responses, and within a day I’ll have up to 50 or 100. In the past, companies would pay top dollar for an honest response from an audience like that, which is exactly why today you’ll see that most companies, big and small, are setup with their own Facebook pages too.
If you haven’t already set one up, now you can – for free!
If you do already have a page, I still recommend that you watch through these videos because I’ve added a few tips and tricks that will maximize your Facebook efforts, and you may end up changing a thing or two (see the image at the very top for a preview).
At the bottom of this post, you’ll also see some downloadables. These are the PSD files that go along with the videos, and the code for your landing page as well.
Enjoy the videos!

If you have a landing page for your Facebook page, even if you’ve already set one up before this post was published, I would love for you to leave a link to it here in the comment section of the blog. This way, we can all get inspired by everyone else’s landing pages and possibly earn the interest of some new fans for your page as well. No advertisements or descriptions necessary please, just a link and any comments about this post or how Facebook has helped your business grow.
Thank you! Cheers!

Cant register a domain with word facebook in it. Namecheap wont let me do so. Any advice?
@Suzanne, if you already have a domain you could create a redirect of a sub-domain ( http://facebook.yourdomain.com )
We use http://facebook.TheGiggingMusician.com

Am kind of new to this world, but your posts seem pretty simple & easy to learn. Thanks for sharing this info…
Thank you so much for this! Pretty much I just copied exactly what you did!

And I followed the ebook guide. Releasing soon! Thanks a lot!
Looks great. I like the sleek greys you use.
This was just in time and very helpful. THANKS. I’m a graphic artist and have just been tasked with creating a FB business page for a client. I’m not clear on something though…should I create my clients page using my own personal FB account e-mail address? Once I create the page, I would be finished my job so I am thinking I would then have to add my client as an ‘administrator’ so he could do and changes or updates. Can you advise on how that is typically handled? Thank you for your wonderful and informative info!!
Awesome post, great info… thanks!
Hi PAt.
Are the link to the psd down. i am recieving an error. anyone else has this problem?
Nice article. thanks.
Hello Pat, thank you for this tutorial. It took me a day to configure out everything. I also tried the domain redirecting because I don’t have a Default Landing Tab but it was complicated. Well, I found out you can’t see this feature unless you choose Community or Pages for Business (if you choose Community). You wont have LANDING TABS for page.
My Fb page link is http://www.facebook.com/pages/Raquel-Mitchell/193962463960682. Now, my question is that how would I make this URL short? It says in your video, we will need at least 25 fans. Is that correct? That means I can change it from http://www.facebook.com/pages/xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx to http://www.facebook.com/xxx? I just want to make it sure since /pages/ is a folder itself.
Please help. Thank you.
Hi Pat,
I’m new to facebook. My friend’s facebook Homepage has a “Like” button, mine does not have, how can i make it appear on my facebook Hompage?
Thanks…
Hi Richard, you won’t see a like button on your own page since you are the administrator. Plus, those who are already fans of your page will not see the like button either, since they’ve already liked it.
Cheers!
now that makes a lot of sense. oh boy, you don’t know how much time i’ve spent trying to get the “Like” button to show up! Thanks Pat
Hi Pat,
I have one Joomla website which have a facebook module installed which allows people to see how many people have already ‘liked’ my website, it is now showing only 2 persons like it. However, the facebook homepage currently has 11 friends. Shouldn’t those 11 friends be synchronised with the number of people who have ‘liked’ in the joomla website?
Terrific! Thanks Pat!!
Hi Pat, thanks for another easy to follow video. Here’s what I did with the info: http://www.facebook.com/FamilyFanClub
Thanks,
Paul
Great info! Adding a landing page is my next step for our FB page. I’m in a catch-22 with our username – says it’s not available, yet when you type it in the address, it’s a page not found. So I’m stuck using that long, ugly URL. Contacted FB a long time ago, no answer.
I’ll be back with a link to our landing page when I get it done!
This is a great post!
Keep you informed of the work done with it…
Well, I must be hitting the limitation of one of the updates, but I don’t see anyone else mentioning this.
I created a tall left hand side image and every time I attempt to attach it as my profile I get a prompt that says “pick something close to a square.”
Any advice?
I also don’t have tabs across the top. If that makes any difference.
thanks for the tutorial, very helpful. Recommended it to all my friends.
Finally got mine done for the page I manage: http://www.facebook.com/pages/TJ-Formal/16857740817 All the buttons are linked.
That looks Great! Not cluttered by a lot of information and the colors really make it pop. The custom buttons are very nice too.
Thanks so much Matt!
Mary…looks terrific!
Thanks for this! The Oklahoma Pork Council now has a landing page! http://www.facebook.com/okpork
How did you get your landing page to come up? I went into manage permissions & changed from the wall but it keeps going to the wall?
Hey Pat, just watched both videos. I’ll definitely be doing that later on today!
I downloaded both files but man my photoshop skills SUCK! I have the new CS5 suite but I really don’t know what to do haha so I’ll definitely have to learn some things. All of the layer stuff throws me off..there’s just soo many tools to use that it’s like PHOTOSHOP OVERLOAD! haha
Anyways great post man. You definitely kept it simple..I was afraid of getting lost but it’s pretty self explanatory. I was checking through the links and there’s some great landing pages. One guy had his landing page include all of the hyper links to connect to his twitter, youtube channel..and then withing it he even had a video..on top of that he made it so that if you didn’t like his page you couldn’t get all the other updates.
What do you think about that?
Good move to kind of entice people to like your page? kind of like “hey like my page so you can see what’s on the other side!”
I think it’s pretty sneaky..alright Pat have a good one brotha!
cheers!

Hi… Sir Pat…
Right now im working with the FBML.. As what they told me FBML will be unavailable after March 11 but im still using it right now.

Thanks for all of your hard work on this concept. I really like it and have tried to apply it to my brand new Facebook page for my Mill Village Gallery. BUT, it only works halfway. That is if a non fan goes to my Mill Village Gallery Facebook page they get the correct page, but if a current fan goes there they do not — they just get the normal status page. Can you help in anyway. I know that you are busy, but I just thought that I would ask.
Hi Pat, how can i make a video landing page on our FB page? Thank you.
Mr. Pat,
A friend sent me your way when I inquired about a Welcome page. I’m new to Facebook. It’s like learning a new language, so much information. First, I learned about Facebook ribbon from Publicity Hound, now Landing page form you. I love your information. It’s clear and precise, informative and easy to understand. I’m in great need for help learning the tricks on Facebook. I sign up for your FREE ebook on your site. That’s great information as well. Thanks for caring enough to help strangers in need, your kindness will return to you ten fold. Best Wishes to your online business.
P.S. I’ll share this great info to my blog readers, fans, and followers.
This is a great resource, I’m going ot create a landing page tonight. Thanks Pat
Great resource for facebook Pat, unfortunately, this as well is out of date with the latest iframes update, but will read your later facebook article on this as well.

Nice oinfo!
We composed a double layered fan page. On the first there is a little game that you have to solve until you reach the real fan page. This holds even more creativity.
If you like it, please push “like” on our fan page!
Many thanks in advance!

Hi Pat
Your tutorial on creating a landing page was really helpful. I just have one question about the source of the image file in the static HTML welcome section. I copied your code and pasted it in the content box…putting my URL and file name, then I uploaded the file to my host site in the image folder. But I think I’ve missed something because it isn’t working. Could you explain a bit where I should save and upload my graphic file to?
Sorry if this is an obvious question, but it’s my first time doing this and I just can’t figure it out.
Thanks Pat
Lianne
Pat,
Very clear tutorial. It seems like so many people create tutorials like these without that clarity. I’ll be creating my first landing page at http://www.couch2cage.com
Thank you very much. I’ve bookmarked this site!
Thanks for the tutorial Pat. I am using http://www.highimpactdesigner.com/to create my landing page but the free trial allow me for just a single template so your video is a real life saver. Thanks again and keep up the good work
Very informative. It’s my guide to create my own. Thanks.
Thanks, Pat, another great resource. I’ve used it to create a basic landing page for my new website: http://www.facebook.com/pages/How-to-Be-Amazing/128800657198153
I’ve been a reader of this website for ages. Keep up the awesome writing you’re doing.
Hi I have followed you steps when creating the landing page. I have uploaded the image I want for the Landing page on Flickr, but when I enter the code in the FBML area, it does not link the image to my page. What am I doing wrong?!
You made this soooooo easy to do. You rock.
Hello Pat, I make exactaly what you tell in video, create the page with static html iframe tab, and set it to my landing page, but dont work, my landing page continues always the wall, you know what can be ?
Pat:
Great tutorial!
I have one question that I just can’t seem to find the answer to. How do you add links to other sites such as you have done with twitter, youtube in the left hand menu under your profile pic?
I can’t seem to figure that out.
Many thanks,
John
John – all you need to do is go to Involver.com, and you get to choose two of their Facebook Applications for free to install on your Facebook page. YouTube and Twitter are two out of several that you can choose from. You can add more, but you’ll have to pay. Hope this helps!
Pat:
Thanks so much. I never would have found this.
Amazing response time as well!
John
On the the landing page tutorial, I do not get the “add to my page” selection after clicking static fbml. Can you tell me where they moved it to?
Okay. got it figured out.
The landing page video is obsolete. FB no longer have an FBML app, yo have to use a different method using a thing called iframes.
The techniques described in the video don’t work any more.
You’ll notice an annotation, in red, at the very beginning of the video that says CLICK HERE to get the last video per all the recent updates.
Ok 2 things
#1 I have noticed that people have a landing page but you don’t have to like it to be able to read their wall. Is it possible for me to have that option if they don’t like the page they can’t see my wall?
#2 Mary-TJ-formal (she posted her link in comments above)landing page has what I would like on my fan page buttons with workable links how would I go about learning how to do something like that? It seem to be a mini website.
Thanks
Jennifer
Hi Jennifer..
#1 – Yes, you can make your application force someone to like your Page before viewing the wall.
#2 – Try 3rd party apps like http://www.highimpactdesigner.com/
http://www.pagemodo.com/ etc.
I just successfully created my first landing page for our small business Peppermint Jim:
https://www.facebook.com/pages/Peppermint-Jim/131071396936298
Thank you for all your help, Pat!
Thanks that has really helped me. The code works like a charm!!
Here is a very good example of Facebook Mashup with fans-only iFrames Page Tab Reveal.
http://www.facebook.com/Megalopes
Pat
I listened to you video it was so simple I have my welcome page went to manage permissions & changed it from wall to welcome & the wall still comes up. I can’t figure this out
Tina,
This is happening because you are already a fan of your page. A good way to test it is to log out of facebook and then go to your page and that is how it will load for non-fans. Just the way FB is. If you are a fan of a page you will land on the wall. All you can control is where non-fans go. Kind of a bummer. Hope that helps.
Matt
Thank you so much for those great tutorials!
Just a quick question since I wasn’t able to open the PSD file for the profile image. Can you give me the top and bottom margin in px to localize where the logo should go?
Thanks a million!
Actually, you can put the logo wherever you want. There’s an “edit thumbnail” option now, which is super convenient.
Thank you. Had forgotten about that one!
Very useful information. This will really help to build up our facebook landing page.
Thanks.
Hi Pat,

Or i need to use apps to set a custom landing page to do so? i only want visitor visit fan page. Many thx!
Are there any free programs we can use to make the image?
I am attempting to create a fan and non-fan page like you did. My non-fan page comes up great. However, once someone has become a fan, the new “fan” images are not showing up. What did I do wrong? Thank you!
Debbie
Hi Pat!
How I can get my page to be in the format “www.facebook.com/My_Page” and NOT “www.facebook.com/Page/My_Page”?
I have problems with this issue.
Greetings and Thanks for sharing this !!!
Sorry for my English
Following your directions this is what I acommplished. Thanks!!! https://www.facebook.com/CompuRocketUSA
For some reason I can’t add any apps to my Fb page. Any ideas why not? cheers!
I have created the welcome tab but am unable to create the landing page please can someone help on how to do this? Do I need to do it in HTML code or is there a easy way of doing this if I do not know how to do the code?
This is good for old one and your tutorial helped me lot so but i created a new Fan Page but there new option and i can’t find the some old option so please if you can post the New tutorial for new one Thank You in Advance
answered my own question. You have to now find the apps facebook page, then you just click add app. you are then asked which page to add it to. and voila! so go to http://www.facebook.com/apps/application.php?id=190322544333196&sk=wall and take it from there
Thanks. Really helpful! Please keep it up.
Thanks for the great tips, not sure if they’ll pay off yet but my page is certainly a lot better than before: http://www.facebook.com/leihgrube.de
Cheers much for this. Very useful
this is really useful…thank you for sharing
Great site!
I do have a question though.
I’m having trouble with my image showing up incorrectly. My image is hosted on a free server, and I’ve made sure that the size is 520px wide. On the image site the pic looks fine, however when I look at my facebook page, the image is cut off. About ¼ of it is missing. I’m sure I’m doing something wrong, but I don’t know what that could be. Any ideas? Thanks for your help!
thanks a lot..great work…it will be useful for the college webpage i am creating..thanks once again…
I have been reading your posts & appreciate all your words of wisdom my landing page is http://www.facebook.com/pages/Nursing-Hearts-and-Bodies-AED-CPR-Training/121881354563005?sk=app_151563618248435.

I am trying to set up a Facebook landing page with welcome. When I goto my apps it does not give me a choice? Has something changed on Facebook?
This is awesome Pat! Thanks for the awesome way of explaining how to do this! Check out what I did with mine!
I used drop box for my photo.
https://www.facebook.com/MarkJarderPhotography
Thanks heap, it’s helps a lot ^^
Hi there, thanks for this article. How do I add a link to the image I created for the landing page? I wanted to include social media icons with links redirecting to it.
My image doesn’t show up, all that shows up is that little blue box with the question mark in it…. lol
Consider using facebook templates as a base for your facebook fanpage. I’m using free facebook templates from http://HostFB.com
Thanks matt, I created a fb page now using this.
