AL 004: Can I Use Low-Lift Collabs to Grow My Audience?
Liz Wilcox: What’s up? Liz Wilcox here. And you are listening to Ask Liz, a special bite-sized weekly podcast episode to answer your questions about online biz, entrepreneurship, lifestyle design, personal development. Whatever your question, I am here for you. In each episode, I will feature a question from you. So whether you’re coming from our main SPI podcast, the SPI Community, my email marketing membership community, or you’re someone who has recently discovered the SPI universe, welcome.
I’m so excited to answer your questions. Now, for this episode in particular, you will notice the question is actually done by a child. Our stuff is not working right, so I had my daughter, her name is Chelsea, talk into the mic for Piper. Piper sent in an awesome question, and Chelsea was gracious enough, as an 11-year-old, to get the mic and ask the question.
So take it away.
Piper: Hey, Liz. My name is Piper. I always hear from people like you and Pat that I need to be doing collabs to grow my audience, but, like, I don’t have time for collabs. I’m already doing so much. Got any low-lift ideas for me?
Liz Wilcox: All right, Piper. So for low-lift collabs, I’ve got three ideas for you, so three easy collabs, and I hope that you can set these up in the next 30 days or less. Because you’re right, you know, the people that are saying you need to do collabs to grow your audience, listen, that is awesome advice, and I love that, and I love that you’re saying like, “Hey, I’m doing so much, but are there any low-lift ideas?”
So my first idea for you, I don’t even know what to call this, but, like, get 5 to 10 contributors and create a webpage. I haven’t seen anybody do this in a while. Back in my blogging days, back in like 2015, 2016, people did this all the time, and I’d love to see it come back. So get 5 to 10 creators in your niche and put their site or their social or their freebie on your site.
Like, hey, this is a roundup post, right? Maybe we call it a roundup post. I teach email marketing, right? So I’m… maybe I round up a bunch of email marketers, and we all just put things on a webpage, on, you know, SmartPassiveIncome.com/emailmarketers. It’s like, hey, these are, these are 5 to 10 email marketers. Here are their freebies, right?
And then you’re gonna share that with your list or on your social media, wherever you’re sharing, and those 5 to 10 contributors, they are gonna share it as well. So super low lift. The only lift is you’ve got to create the webpage. So maybe that takes you two to three hours.
Maybe it takes you another one to two hours to find those five to 10 contributors. But if you’re already networking, which you should be doing, it might only take you 20 minutes to ask five to 10 people, “Hey, I’m creating this webpage. Send over your freebie, your website, and your social media.” All right, so that’s the webpage collab, the roundup post.
The second idea I have for you is just a really simple co-hosted live session, right? You’re going live on YouTube together. You’re going live on Instagram, wherever. Maybe you’ve got a private community, you want to go live in their private community. They go live in your private community. Super, super low lift.
When I’m talking low lift, I mean low lift. I did this with a lady named Christina Lenkowski. She’s a podcast broker. She helps people get on podcasts. Shout out Christina and the gang. And I forgot that we were even doing this collab, and she was like, “Hey girl, are you ready?” And I was literally on a road trip with my daughter, who you just heard her voice asking Piper’s question.
I was literally on a road trip with her, and I was like, “Oh, darn, I gotta pull over.” And we were in an Arby’s parking lot. Shout out to curly fries. Shout out to Arby’s sauce because you know, I fed the, to my daughter while I did this co-hosted live session. We were talking about how getting on podcasts is a great way to grow your email list.
And it was just so funny. But again, low lift. I literally pulled over, got some curly fries for the kiddo, and, you know, went live for, I think, 15 or 20 minutes talking about the topic. It was super easy, and I gained a lot of Instagram followers, and so did she.
The last thing, and my favorite, and I actually have a sticky note on my computer to remind me to do this every single day to find more opportunities like this. It’s so low lift. It’s so impactful for your list building, your audience building, it’s a lead magnet swap.
So you have a freebie, a lead magnet. They have a freebie, some sort of opt-in, and you swap. I share yours. You share mine. I actually did two of these in the last seven days, and I’ve gotten, I think, almost 200 subscribers.
So super, super low lift. You know, all I had to do was write an email. Hey, maybe Pat and I were doing it, right? So, you know, “Hey, Pat, I’m gonna share your zero to a hundred email list challenge or course.” I can’t remember what it’s called. Sorry, Pat. And he’s gonna share my welcome sequence templates, right?
And we both write emails to our own newsletters, to our own email list, and we hit send, and we grow our audiences like that.
All right, Piper, hope that was super helpful. Again, do that roundup post, that webpage with 5 to 10 contributors, a co-hosted live session should only take you 15, 20 minutes, and then that lead magnet swap. Honestly, you know, just finding the person and sending out that email, that’s another low lift, high return collab you can do.
And honestly, y’all, listen to me. You can do these in 30 days or less. Love it for you. Super excited. See you on the next episode.
