New eHow Page on The Smart Passive Income Blog

new-page-ehowI’m always looking to improve the content and usability of The Smart Passive Income Blog, and I do realize that several of my subscribers are writers for eHow.com or people who may be thinking about doing it soon. This is why I’m proud to announce a new page dedicated just for my eHow.com readers – The eHow Reports Page.

I’m not going to duplicate the content here in this post, so I encourage you to click on over and have a look at the new page. It focuses not only on my earnings, but also what I could have earned if I had continued to write like I had in the first month.

Now, I know I’ve been pretty big on showing off how I continue to make $150 a month from eHow.com from writing only 150 articles back in November of 2008 and since then never writing a single new article. Well, after writing the new eHow Reports page and seeing how much I could be making, I decided to start adding more articles to my arsenal. So far, I’ve written 8 new articles in August.c

Besides Maria’s Increase eHow Earnings Book, which I always recommend to get the most from your eHow.com earnings, I’m using a new tool, one that I’m sure not very many eHow.com users use. It’s called Market Samurai. Market Samurai is an advanced internet marketing tool that is used mainly by affiliate marketers and those who are trying to find profitable niches. It just so happens its perfect for me when trying to find an profitable article to write about for eHow.com.

It honestly has way too many features for me to list, but just imagine a keyword research tool, Google AdWords ke yword tracker, a page rank checker, a content finder and a backlink generator – all in one place. Plus, they just came out with a SWEET tool that’s perfect for earning an extra commission on those eHow.com articles.

What I can do is type in a keyword and it automatically finds related products that offer a commission for that particular keyword. These are products from Amazon.com, Clickbank, Commission Junction and PayDotCom. It’s crazy amazing and super fast, and I can easily earn a few extra dollars (potentially hundreds of extra dollars) from just a few clicks. For those of you who understand how eHow.com works, I’m sure you can see how powerful this one particular feature from Market Samurai can be. There’s a free trial you can download, but it’s definitely something I recommend. Check out the screenshot below for what it looks like (click to enlarge):

Good times…

I don’t write for eHow but I still found in interesting reading through that page – I’m on a similar journey with Hubpages at the moment. Still trying to get the hang of Market Samurai though!

Like the new page a lot. I actually just launched the 100 Article eHow challenge for the month of August. My goal is to write 100 articles during the month to add to my eHow library. That will put me over 250 articles and hopefully bring in a very nice income stream each month.

Has anyone experimented with paying others to write articles for eHow? If so, does it pay off? I’m thinking I could hire someone to write decent articles at $10-20 a pop and capture the passive income.

    Thoughts?

Actually, I have looked into this. I have put out trial bids at getafreelancer.com. I think a person could get a 500 word article from 3-5 bucks. However, I was not impressed with the batch of sample articles….. I only tried it once, so maybe I was not patient enough to wait for someone with better skills to bid on the project

@ Pat: Nice! Glad to see you back in the article writing game. Looking forward to the progress of your new page.

@ Ben: at $10-20 a pop, I’ll write the articles for you :) However, there has been a lot of people having success with the Human Rewriter. I don’t use them but Mikeman over at mikeiser.com swears by them. If you consider joining, use his affiliate link (unless Pat has one – then use his ;) ) as he’s a good guy that provides a good service to the IM community.

Glad to see that you have decided to write articles again! It is definitely worth it. Just keep writing articles and you will see your monthly income grow and grow on eHow. Market Samurai looks like a good program. I will definitely have to check that one out. I have been using Micro Niche Finder and I can’t believe the success i’ve had with it so far. Check it out if you want!

    Great Post!

You’ve encouraged me to start writing again. Maria’s book is essential for anyone who hesitates on buying it, and is well worth the investment!

    Thanks Pat!

Thanks for sharing your stats. I haven’t written for eHow, but you’re certainly inspiring me to change my mind.

Good to see this page, Pat. As you know from some of my previous comments here, I drank the eHow kool-aid long ago!

Although at eHow the summer doldrums have set in (the months where less people are reading articles [darn them... stop enjoying the sun and READ]). I beleive it is a great way to diversify one’s talents.

Think of it this way, I can write 100 articles, and some of them will not be of interest, but the other portion will. The income over these 100 articles will shake out to a certain baseline average of dollars per article. If you use your average dollars per article as a guide, you can predict the impact of “x” number of additional articles.

Writing for eHow seems to add a certain air of stability to a passive income stream.

Wow, thanks for the reminder on doing more research before I write my articles. It seems like some articles I have written have been a complete waste of time, but others that I have researched more are my top earners. Pat your earnings are very inspiring to me. I can’t wait until I get to over $100 dollars a month. I just got my first pay check form eHow! It was for only $15, but I’m sure I’ll get a lot more in the future.

    Hey Pat,

You, and a couple of other passive income bloggers have got me thinking… I decided to throw out an eHow article writing challenge, with a couple of little prizes… I hope it is ok if I put up the link.. http://www.easykindamoney.com/2009/08/16/the-ehow-challenge/

It might even get You back to eHow writing…

Pat, thanks for mentioning Market Samurai. I am also using that software, but I still have a ways to go before mastering how to use it. It’s great to see this page added to your site, as you were one of the bloggers who got me started in that venture.

Pat, I have to say….I’m thoroughly impressed with your Blog….you count on me being a return visitor….

(Just to give you fair warning….it’s a REALLY long article….however, I think you may enjoy it!)….

I know you said you aren’t particularly fond of writing articles specifically about ‘writing on eHow’….but, that article may just change your mind…. ;)

Also….feel free to stop by my other Articles about how I leverage other online websites like Squidoo and Facebook…. :)

Looking forward to reading more of your Blog Posts! :)

And that ehow article got deleted too.

      • Reply Howie on December 2nd, 2009 at 5:17 am

lol……I had initially posted that on August 27th….

After reading some horrible horrible reports from people loosing upwards of 30+ articles in their infamous “article sweeps”, I actually decided to remove all 150+ of my eHow articles, in mass…..

….I didn’t feel comfortable, at all, exerting more effort on eHow…..I immediately moved all my articles over to a different website platform……

….If I’m not mistaken, Pat had an article or two deleted, as well……

  • Reply Howie on August 27th, 2009 at 4:33 am

oh…and, I linked to your article in my resources section! :)

    • Reply Pat on August 27th, 2009 at 11:35 am

Thanks Howie! I’ll definitely check it out :)

      • Reply Howie on August 29th, 2009 at 3:43 am

Hey Pat, have you ever had an article deleted on eHow? Occasionally, I stop by the eHow forums, and it’s been really disheartening to see how some long term users, who have produced quite a few quality articles have had articles deleted during their ‘article sweeps’….

…I haven’t had any deleted yet, however, on the surface, it does appear like their article submission guidelines could use a little work/clarity….

        • Howie on August 29th, 2009 at 3:45 am

….I actually read a post about a longterm eHow user who had upwards of 60+ articles deleted!….as much as I love eHow, sometimes I’m a little cautious about committing myself to the platform, at least until they expand their article submission guidelines…..it’s the people that say that their articles were deleted for a few simple misspellings, or for starting one of their “steps” out with an article like “I”, rather than an actionable verb, that has me truly concerned about proceeding….

    Hi Pat

Great article. Unfortunately the “Writer Compensation Programme” is only available to users in the US, so international readers be aware of this.

This is very disappointing for me (I’m not American and have never been to the States), as I was all set to emmulate your feat and write 100-200 articles this month, and was looking forward to an additional $100 flowing in per month.

Guess I’ll just have to look at other sources of Passive Income!

    Cheers

    Hello Pat,

Thanks for your article. Alas, Ehow payments are not available for non-US citizens. Do you know an Ehow equivalent that perhaps is more tolerant on this topic ?

On a side note Pat, I just wanted to say that I use Market Samurai all the time and its by far the most effective keyword research, analysis, and tracking tool I’ve ever used. Thanks for the tips :-)

    Hey Pat,

So for awhile now I have been reading your income reports and somehow skipping over your eHow earnings. Possibly because they were relatively small compared to your other sources of income…not sure exactly. But I have recently started an eHow account and I am already up to 40 articles. I actually just purchased Maria’s e-book (and gave you some affiliate love) so hopefully I will see my earnings start to increase. I am only at $2.78 right now (after 2 weeks) but I know that that number will increase dramatically in the future. My goal is to write 20 articles per week. So we’ll see how far I get. But I wanted to say that reading through all of your eHow articles has been very inspirational. Between your posts, and Maria’s e-book, I should be well on my way to earning a tidy little side income. Thanks again as always!

Hi Pat – great post on eHow. I’ve been recently thinking about writing articles for passive income but found that eHow is now run by Demand Studios. For most assignments, they offer a one-off payment of $7.50 – $15. Do you think its still a worthwhile venture since there is no hope for recurrent income, regardless of traffic?
