My New Podcasting Equipment and a Short Recording

So, I’m playing around with my new podcasting equipment, and I thought to myself, why don’t I just do a short recording and post it for my readers. So…here it is.

Really, it’s nothing special. I just wanted to familiarize myself with my new toys, and see what it’s like to record something and post it online. I’m really excited about starting some sort of podcast in the future, and here you are witnessing my very first recording. Yay! I’m glad I could share it with you today.

Oh, and there’s a little bit of rock music at the beginning and the end, just to make it sound more “podcasty”, just for your information. As you can see hear, I have a long way to go. I gotta start somewhere though!

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

I’ve also included a picture of my equipment. Please excuse my dirty room, and my messy hair. It’s 3:00am right now:

I’m using a Samsung C01U USB Mic. It’s seriously plug and play – no mixers, no software, it works just right out of the box. Awesome. The mic is on a desk stand, with a shock mount and a pop filter. And I’m just recording directly on garageband on my iMac. I love new toys.

Will this become some form of income in the future? Who knows. Really, it’s just fun for me right now, and I’ll have to do some more research on what topic I should podcast about that I have an interest in, and also how to monetize it and all that stuff.

I hope you enjoyed this little podcasting preview. Until next time…

I used to do a podcast called Career Mom Radio, it was surprisingly easy and fun.

I recently bought a flip digi cam, I’ve done a few videos, but it’s hard getting over the self-consciousness.

I think there’ll be lots more multi-media in 2009 :)

What do you envision your first podcast being about? Make it relevant and interesting and it won’t be the bore that so many others are. Ha Ha.

AWESOME, Pat! I was going to get myself one of those for Christmas, but decided on an iPhone 3G instead. I’m thinking Valentine’s Day…. :)

Thanks everyone for your comments and inspiration. I’m a little more confident now that I can do fairly well if I put some of my time into a PodCast. I’ll be sure to keep you updated =)

Happy New Year!

How much was that Pat? I am thinking of going into podcasting as well.

@Vik Dulat, the mic cost about $80.00 on Amazon, and the stand and pop filters were an extra $30 bucks. A very reasonable price in my opinion. Let us know when you start one up, i’d be interested in listening! Good luck!

Hey Pat,

How do you get the audio file into the blog post – is it externally hosted?

Cheers

That has got to be the coolest microphone I’ve ever seen! LOL
I have the snoball blue which reminds me of an antique (it’s not, it’s what Frank Kern has) and I’m almost embarrassed to have it on my desk with my hi tech multi-monitor setup! :)

I used to have the Genius Desktop Microphone and replaced it with the Snowflake Mic which is a lot better. That’s why I use to do my Youtube videos and my podcast.

I’ll be looking at upgrading it in the future but there a few more toys that I’d like to get first.
