Increase eHow Income with Referral Links

Here is a quick guest post by Andy from Tight Fisted Miser. He is just starting his eHow empire, but has come across a technique that you may find helpful as well.

I started writing for eHow shortly after I started reading Smart Passive Income.  I’ve just dabbled in it so far but the last two months have convinced me that eHow is a great way to make passive income and that I need to devote more time to writing eHow articles.

I’ve written a total of five articles for eHow.  My eHow earnings have been $0.31 for November 2008, $3.08 for December 2008, and $2.47 for January 2009.  Those results are not too impressive and you’re probably wondering why I am convinced that eHow could be a great way for me to make passive income.

The reason I’m happy with my eHow results is because I also made $50 dollars from a referral link.  I wrote an eHow article titled “How to Receive the Wachovia Bank $25 Referral Bonus” and two people have signed up for the bonus through my referral link.  This is a win-win because they receive a $25 bonus and I receive a $25 bonus.

It seems obvious to me now that including referral or affilliate links in your eHow articles, where appropriate, is a good way to increase your earnings but it wasn’t really something I thought about when writing my articles.  I still have a lot to learn about eHow and it is encouraging to see that even while I’m learning and improving I’m already receiving a decent return on my time invested.

Great advice. I’m also very interested in Andy’s article about Living on $10k a Year!

Interesting. I will have to check this potential outlet out. As for the small returns, remember small amounts add up. Keep plugging.

Very interesting! I need to be more pro-active about adding similar affiliate links to my eHow articles. It can definitely net some great returns!

So far I’ve only added Amazon affiliate links to my eHow articles, but your idea sounds pretty cool!

Andy – I remember reading that eHow article by you months ago! Great job. I have not earned any affiliate income yet from my eHow articles but I think you have found a great opportunity to make some extra money.

I by no means want to be a downer, since you are among the first authors to get me interested in E-How, but I thought that we would be penalized if we included any affiliate links? Please tell me I’m wrong, so that I can spruce up my future E-How articles! :)

@pfincome, thanks so much for the information. That alone is a great reason to utilize E-How!

I definitely recommend that eHow writers take advantage of the Resources section and maximize their income with affiliate links.

One such link on my eHow articles has earned over $200 in commissions just in the past week–it can be significant!

@Maria @ Residual Income Web, How do you insert your affiliate links in your article? What other kinds of self-promotion can you use in them?

You have to use the resources section as there is no html functionality in the article body or steps.

In addition to affiliate links, links to your own blogs and websites in a related niche can be good for additional traffic.

You should definitely write more for eHow! I’ve been a member of eHow for 3 months now.. and I love it! I’m getting about 50 bucks a month with eHow earnings, and they’re steadily rising. 5 articles on eHow won’t do very much.

Christina, you’re absolutely right – the more you write, the more chances you have to earn the big bucks. Thanks for the reminder for everyone, and best of luck to you!

This actually applies to all sorts of articles. Adding your referral link does bring you income whether it’s just an Amazon link or some other type of affiliate link
