Here’s a quick two and a half minute YouTube video which explains why it’s so much easier to earn more money working for yourself online, versus working for someone else.
Think about it.
Cheers!

Great video Pat!
The message that is carried in that video is so true. Having your own online business does increase the posibilities you have to earn more money.
Thanks Franck!
Internet really is mind-blowing.
Whenever i tell people that i make $xxxx from working online the number one reaction is: “How is that possible!”.
My usual answer is : “Nah, i am just kiddin!” , cause i am too freaking lazy to explain the 1on1s on internet marketing to someone who has no basic knowledge about it and seems to have a limited perception of reality.
Pat, you forgot one IMPORTANT point about working for yourself!
You can wear whatever clothes you like! *thumb up for the yellow shorts*
Looking forward to your podcasts, hope they will be released soon.
regards,
Pete
PS: Is it only me or is the “Sphinn-Link” still wrong
Yeah Pete, some people just don’t understand the possibilities, which is quite unfortunately. I’m sure most everyone who visits this blog though knows that making a living online is really possible.
And yep! We can work in whatever clothes we want! Although, I still sometimes change out of my PJs before I get to work at home because it helps my mind shift gears.
And the yellow shorts…LOL. Those are my Cal Basketball shorts. I had just gotten home from the gym when I shot the video.
Cheers Pete!
Hillarious, professional, and great point. Can’t wait to see more like this!
Thanks Dan! How are the tropics treating you?
Its a great lifestyle here in Asia…. will have our branch office set up in Manila set up in a month or so then I’m thinkin’ of heading off to Bangkok for round two of Tropical MBA… I’m thinking of getting a Macbook so I can make some ninja edits like you have there!
Pat,
Didn’t you once say your conversions/sales started to go up when you actually INCREASED the price of your eBook?
Yep! It showed that the book had more value and so more people ended up purchasing it, even at the higher price point. There’s a line of value versus overpriced, and so some experimentation has to be done in order to maximize profits.
Nice job Pat. It really helped to get me motivated for the day ahead.
Good to hear Darryl! Thanks!
This was really neat Pat and I really do “get” it and am glad to know people like you who remind me constantly!
Thanks Patrenia! I’m glad the video was able to get my point across. Cheers!
LOL, great video Pat!
That was very effective in getting your point across. It’s true, there are a million and one ways to make money online and truly very few ways to make money working for someone else.
Great video, that hit home.
Thanks Marty, I appreciate it! Hope all is well. Cheers!
Pat, YouTube is blocked here at work
I’ll have to check it out once I get home. Perfect timing for this video Pat, as my last day at work will be April 21st
Sorry about the video being blocked. I’m sure you’ll see it once you get home.
And congrats on “breaking free!” Wishing you all the best!
Best. Shirt. Ever.
Good video though. I love the black walls and whiteboard paint. Nice idea. Sorry, I noticed a lot in the video besides just the talking
Seriously though, good video and nice tips.
Haha – thanks Mike.
And thanks for noticing everything else in the video. I worked hard on my office so it’s nice to see other people point things like that out.
Cheers!
Hi Pat, the video is also blocked for me at work so I’m going to have to wait until I get home to watch it like Moon above. However, the title of this post and the first paragraph don’t agree with each other. The title makes it sound like it’s better to work 9 to 5 and the paragraph states it’s easier to make money working for yourself. I’m a bit confused; however, maybe the video justifies it? Anyway, can’t wait to watch it when I get home!
Hi Richard, I think it will make sense when you see the video. Let me know!
It’s all about creating more possibilities. Great post!
Thanks PA!
Awesome vid. Love how you pieced it together. Love that t-shirt, it rocks. (Do you have an app for that?) By the way, I was expecting to see your little dog in the show.
You are so right about making more money online. It really is endless what you could get yourself into. It’s only limited to your time and energy.
Yeah, I was gonna bring Gizmo in, but he needs a haircut, LOL.
Next shirt I want to see in your video: Go Tweet Yourself!
Haha, I love that idea for a shirt. I wouldn’t be surprised if someone made that shirt already. Time to do some research, LOL.
Ugh, why can’t I read your shirt? I hope it’s due to watching on my phone and not my eyes
Someone tell me what it says…
Hi Jackie, it says:
“The iPhone has completely changed the way I poop”.
Haha, I bet it has
I think I’d rather work 9-5 and make someone else rich
…joking, great video Pat. Inspirational!
LOL. I was like…ugh…whatever floats your boat.
Hehe, thanks Mike!
This is my first time to visit your site. You are fantastic! I love the way you got your point across in such as short amount of time. You also added a great deal of value.
I look forward to sticking around and learning more about what you have to offer.
Thanks for stopping by Stephanie! I really appreciate it, and please never hesitate to leave a comment or ask a question if you have one. Cheers!
Great video pat. Love the editing/bouncing from topic to topic. Looking good too, bro. It’s great to have time to workout!
Wow, I actually have been working out more, so it’s really cool someone noticed. That’s really awesome. Thanks JC! I think I’m going to do some pushups now. LOL.
Great video, super info and it was humorous too. Let get this bad boy to go viral!!!!
That would be pretty sweet if it did. Thanks for any help you could provide! Cheers!
Hi! Pat!
I’m a subscriber and lurker till now! I enjoy reading your blog and find it very inspiring.
But, when you post a video it takes ages to watch from my end because of poor internet download speed in my area. That is why I always thought it would be great if bloggers also provide transcripts of their videos – not to mention the SEO benefits thereof.
Anyway, downloading the video from youtube now….
Hey Carey,
Sorry about that, I totally understand what you mean. Luckily, this video is only 2 minutes long, so it won’t be as long as some of the others I have on the site. If I do provide videos later that provide more content, I’ll definitely put up a transcript of some kind.
Thanks!
OK, great video and info as usual. I know this was touched upon, but that shirt is AWE……wait for it…..SOME!!! I think I have actually said that same phrase about 10 times to my friends and family. I wonder how many people searched for it after watching your video.
Thanks again!
Haha, thanks Nell. I saw it on threadless.com and I just had to get it. Mainly because it’s true, which is why it’s funny. LOL!
Thanks man!
Hi Pat!
I like the way you recorded this video. Joining lots of small clips recorded at different angles. Now you are getting master of video cast also. Keep coming more.
Hehe, thanks Azad. It was quite easy. It was all done on one take, I just edited/deleted out the parts in between. Woohoo!
Thanks for the great post Pat. Good motivation for putting some solid effort into my site after work today!
Thanks Mario, I’m glad you like it. Let’s get stuff done today!!!
Apparently, I need an iPhone… Maybe it can help me make more money online too.
Thanks for the video
For some people, that’s the truth. Wishing you all the best!
Excellent, quick post, Pat.
And, actually, I have a feeling that Ms. Freeman could be right. I’ve got a sneaky feeling that this clip is gonna start doing the rounds online.
Good job!
Now I have to shoot a similar idea for my Virtual Business Lifestyle blog!!!
Chat soon,
Chris
I would LOVE to see this get posted around. I think it has the ingredients for it. We’ll see, I guess!
Excellent points! And that white board looks AWESOME!
Thanks! I appreciate it Rudy!
Many awesome ideas here Pat. There is never a shortage of ways to make money online, only a shortage of creative ideas.
Well said Ryan! I love it! Cheers!
Hey Pat, Love the video. I like how you went outside of the box for the title. “How earn more money working 9 to 5 Versus Working for Yourself Online” this is a great eye catching title. I had to do a double read at first when I saw the title.
Great information in the video. You are right there are many opportunities to make a living from online income.
Thanks Alicia! I think I should do more videos, this one seems to be driving a lot of traffic to the blog!
Thanks again, and I wish you all the best! Cheers!
Great video…loved the rapid takes.
The beauty in your video post was demonstrating the limitations of the 9to5 job. It’s easy to forget about the glass ceiling a typical career places on you when you’re getting a paycheck every pay period.
You really made an impression on me that with the right attitude and some motivation, the possibilities to be happy making money are endless.
Keep up the great video posts. Also, I can’t wait for some podcasts to show up on your website soon! I’ll keep checking in!
Thanks Mike! I’m glad you got exactly what I was trying to convey, which was the limitations of the 9 to 5 job like you mentioned.
Working on getting the Podcasting equipment right now! I can’t wait!
Great video Pat…it really is a whole new mindset. The title was a bit misleading though, I had to hear the inflection when you said it to know online was better.
Of course I have been reading for awhile so I already knew the outcome but it threw me off. I would be interested to see if that helps or hurts the views on YouTube.
Good Luck!
Thanks Brian – the title was meant to be compelling, and a little ironic as well. The views on YouTube are going fairly strong so far – almost 850 in about two days, that’s not bad! I think, hehe!
Hey Pat,
Happy to see the iPhone has changed your life – and I’m sure as a result, has enriched your tweets
I think ultimately what I like most about working online is that every action is a risk, with some potential for return – and I can track and (assuming it wasn’t a huge faux pas) rollback from the risk such as changing copy, trying a different tact, trying video, etc
One interesting thing I’ve been playing with is Google Web Optimizer for my sign up page for my ebook – mostly just for fun, but I’m amazed how changing *one word* in the headline can have a 20-30% difference in conversions. I think it’s likely that the small changes affect whether people care enough to continue reading the copy
I am thinking of testing later with some utterly ridiculous headlines like “Sid Brings Home The Bacon.” I am genuinely curious to see – will it help conversion? I have a hunch that something totally out of left field would probably convert way better than what I have going now – though I am a bit scared to try
Yeah, it’s totally true that one word can make all the difference in the world. That’s why I always say to test and keep testing, and never stop! I’d be interested in hearing how your “different” headlines work out for you. I might try something in a newsletter sometime soon.
Thanks for the awesome comment Sid. Cheers bud!
Well said in humorous way… Thanks Pat for giving the reality beyond imagination of what could be archived just like you now… Hmm, nice one…!
Thanks Terrance! I always appreciate your support!
Good post Pat, cheers. Nice shorts by the way
I have a question that will probably seem a little random – what plugin do you use for embedding videos in Wordpress? I’ve been hunting around for one that will embed videos even via RSS through Feedburner – so you can actually watch them via RSS on the iPhone, but so far I haven’t found anything…..
Those are my yellow Cal shorts. Gotta sport the Alma Mater!
For the videos, do you mean on the blog posts, or on my video page? On the video page, I use “TubePress”, and in the blog posts, I don’t use any at all. In fact, I pull the code from YouTube (the embed code), and then copy paste it into the html portion of my blog post. It seems to do the job, and it doesn’t take very long.
Hope that helps!
Hi Pat,
Two more suggestions:
#1: don’t follow the news. If everyone is writing about the ipad, the market will get saturated very quickly so look elsewhere, for example, into similar products such as the Kindle.
#2: before you start a site, buy the domain etc., setup a sub-domain e.g., kindle.yoursite.com, setup a blog and see if there is interest in the topic. Give it 4-8 weeks min and wait for the ‘novelty’ to wear off.
If you’re going to do this, you need to think long-term.
Ivan, those are all great tips. We should always think about the long-term, however we shouldn’t let the long-term stop us from taking action now and just getting things done! Remember, things don’t need to be perfect!
I watched this yesterday at school. I laughed at the turtleneck. I have a few videos coming out soon, I only hope I can make them as enjoyable as yours! Thanks Pat.
Thanks Jay, I appreciate that. Let me know when they are up, I’d love to check them out. Cheers!
We’re actually going to try a few of the online options you said. I’ve been reading about creating eBooks and I’m also thinking carefully about it.
Awesome Julius! Good luck with all of your projects, and please keep me updated once you get things going. Cheers!
That’s about it Pat there are hundreds of opportunities but you have to sort through the scams to get to the legitimate sources of Passive Income. Check them out thoroughly before you commit, the good thing is most are low investment which means low risk.
Nothing ventured nothing gained, don’t sit back and watch others buy back there freedom with Passive Income, it’s not for the chosen few, it’s there for any one who chooses. I have more Information on my website too feel free to check it out also.

All the very best Pat, Steve
Steve, I realize what you’re saying, but the point of this was to note how when you’re doing work online, you are not limited by only two ways to increase your income: getting a raise, or working longer hours.
Thanks for the great reminder though, it can be hard to filter through a lot of the weeds out there at times. That’s why I’m here.
Cheers!
I’ve embedded your video on my site with a post. My readers are all commenting on those slick white boards.
Thanks JD for embedding the video. I’ll go over and have a look-see.
Dude, you got me LOLing in a break from IBMA. Keep rockin’ it!
Haha, will do!
Also, when you’re working for someone else, you can’t wear a shirt to work that says poop on it. Unless you work at a poop factory or pooplantation or something.
Haha, thanks for making me laugh now. LOL!
Your Lab is Cool Pat.
Thanks! And I sort of like how you call it a lab
That is the true beauty of creating an online business. On top of all these benefits, it still provide us with freedom to work anywhere at anytime.
Cheers,
Vincent
Totally agree, Vincent! Cheers!
Hi Pat!
Just watched your video after downloading it. Awesome. Very creative and smart editing!!
Thanks Carey! I appreciate it!
Great Video Pat!
The points are awesome and I love the shirt.
Thanks Michael! I got the shirt from threadless.com. They have some good stuff =)
lovely video…cool editing …what tools or softwares did you use…
All i did was use Camtasia for Mac. That’s it! I did all of the editing on that software. PC has a version too: Camtasia Studio.
Cool video and the editing was really cool. I totally see shiny gold shorts becoming a hot trend this summer.
Thanks Jason! If I see a lot of people with shiny yellow shorts, I’ll know exactly where that started =P
Cheers!
Hello Pat, I’ve been known for long time a go that through online we can make money. But I never got good result to generate income. I think may be I’m not focus to do it at all and very lazy to learn something new. I want money visit to my bank account in short time without doing the correct way at the first. .. So I totally failed.
But, when I subscribed to your RSS approx. 1 month ago and read the last two your monthly report, I got new motivation of myself to start again. Thank u Fat for this video and many articles you’ve been wrote. I love to wait your new update ones….
I really appreciate the message that comes across in your video! There are seldom reasons to work for someone else when you can work for yourself!
I wanted to let you and your subscribers know about a website I found that lets you save and earn money for shopping online! Go to http://www.ShoppingPayday.com to download your free toolbar, then every time you shop online you earn points which you redeem for cash! You also have the option to tell your friends about this free opportunity and earn more points when they download their toolbar!
Like you say up front, passive income is not a “get rich quick” scheme, and neither is this website. However, it provides some mailbox money to look forward to each week, and it is simple and free so you can’t really go wrong.
Thanks for maintaining a great blog!
Hi Pat,
You are just so cool! I love this video. I run an association for self-employed communication professionals and lots of our new members have just been laid off from the 9-5. They initially “resort” to working for themselves until they can get another job. I’m always telling them what a bad idea that is. Now I can just send them to this video – it’s soooo true how much more control and – dare I say it – fun you can have by working for yourself.
I send my readers over to you blog all the time. Love the fresh insight. Thanks for sharing your journey.
Barbara
Wonderful video. As someone who has always worked for someone else this video gives me the security in knowing that breaking the “cycle” is possible. Thanks Pat
Raymon
Yeah nice details and it’s very helpful to everyone. In these videos we can watch how to do some things and it’s very clear way to teach and explain something.
