A Geektastic Guest Post

I’m away on my honeymoon in Hawaii! I’d like to thank Jen from The Green Ninja for the following guest post. Jen is a freelance writer who writes creative and unique material about writing online and always provides interesting reads. Check it out!

I am a geek.  I know this about myself.  I am passionate about all aspects of being a total and complete nerd.  Science, astronomy, physics – you name it and I want to read/talk/play a board game about it.

When another geek is spotted within a hundred foot range, tractor beams activate somewhere and suddenly there we are, talking excitedly in high pitched voices about the Large Hadron Collider or the new science related bill that has reached Congress.  My eyes light up and my arms wave around quite a bit. This is called passion.

There is a small electronic device on my desk that I purchased several years ago from ThinkGeek.  Most people pass right by it without even paying attention.  Some, though, will pause and ask what it does.

I decided that if I ever brought home a date who automatically knew that the device was a Binary Code Clock, I would marry them on the spot.  I met said individual and the wedding is in April.

As an entrepreneur (or as a person), you must have passion if you want to succeed.  You have to know enough about yourself to realize what it is that turns you on and gets your voice all revved up and your hands flailing about.  If you use your passion, the money will follow.

If you can talk for hours about science, golf or romance novels, there are ways to make money online.  If your passion is knitting or even dog grooming, you can earn a passive income by being exactly who it is that you are.

Whether itís writing articles for eHow, creating a Niche Blog or starting up your very own business online, if you follow your passion, you will make money.

Think about the last time you recommended a restaurant, hair dresser or other business to a friend. You probably told them how awesome it was and why you liked it and then encouraged them to try it out.

Talking excitedly about something you enjoy and spreading the word around is called selling. Youíre probably very good at it and you didnít even know it. Give it a try.  You might be surprised at the affiliate sales and blog traffic you receive simply by talking about your passion.

Again, feel free to read more from Jen at The Green Ninja.

I remember reading about this in your Today.com blog. I keep Geek Blog over there, which I think you’ve commented on before. Today has turned out to be a complete bust for me though. I don’t think I’ll be continuing the blog there.

@ LShep – I think I’m going to stick around with today for just a little while longer since they have been adding affiliate programs. I am interested to see how that works.
