“Structure determines behavior.”

This is the main thesis of the book—let me explain in terms that I can understand. Per Fritz, “The next time you're in a building, notice how the structure of the building determines your path through it.” In other words, unless you have the superpower to blast through walls, where you can walk is restricted by the structure of the building. How does this apply to creativity? We often have established bad structures in our life (habits, schedules, rituals, messy spaces) that make it hard for us to move and grow. In order to achieve our goals, we have to build new structures.
This is a great book to read if you are struggling to make headway on a project or if you feel like you are constantly spinning your wheels but failing to get traction. There great “if this, then that” thought exercises (structures, if you will!), as well as mindset prompts that will help you move forward. You need to become the predominant creative force in your life. Stop finding sophisticated ways of responding to circumstances and start building the structures that will move you forward.
