Ready Or Not (Amazon link) was a gift from the amazing Michelle Tam, the author of the popular food website, NomNomPaleo.com. Michelle has been following along with my SPI journey for a while now, so I wasn’t too surprised (but I was happy!) to see this book show up in my mailbox. I am not 100 percent on the Paleo diet, but I am close. I am always looking out for new recipes to share with my family. I’m the cook in the house, so it’s important for me to feed the family, especially the kids, healthy (and tasty) recipes. When I was growing up, I didn’t have many healthy food options to choose from. I want to give my kids a better (and healthier) experience

For my time in the kitchen, this book has already been a major game-changer. I’ve cooked over twenty recipes so far, and each one is delicious and—the best part—easy to follow. Some of the recipes have even been requested by the kids multiple times—including the salt and pepper pork chops, buffalo cauliflower wings, and instant pot kalua pork.
Is your mouth watering yet?
Ready Or Not is not just full of delicious recipes (although that would be enough); it’s full of education too. I thought I understood what Paleo was, but I was only half right. This book taught me a lot more about what it means to eat Paleo, why it’s important, and—even though I’m not 100 percent Paleo—it’s still super helpful to have as a resource to know why recipes are built the way they are. Also, the recipes are super simple! And, most adorable of all, and something I connect to as a dad, Michelle’s family is represented throughout the whole book as cartoon versions of themselves. It’s super cute and and by reading Ready Or Not, I got to know Michelle and her family really well. I feel like we’re buddies now!
This is a great example of how to take something simple, like a recipe book, and turn it into a relationship-building tool.
