SPI 031 : Seeds of Opportunity & Pat Goes Hollywood

The Smart Passive Income Podcast Logo

In this session of the Smart Passive Income Podcast, to kick of the new year I share something special that happened to me that happened as a result of producing the SPI podcast.

This is session is a little different than the rest in that it’s more inspirational and motivational (as opposed to stuff that you can totally take action with right now), but the message and lessons behind it are still extremely important.

I’ve hinted about this a couple of times in the past, but last year I was hired by a Hollywood Producer to help him with an upcoming film. As a result I was able to fulfill a life long dream of mine, which I talk more about in the show.

Even though I tell a story in this session, I do my best to try to include some tips for your online business or blog, including my overall web and social media strategy to help promote this film.

I’m extremely proud to be a part of this project and share it here with you today !

If you’re at work and cannot listen to the audio or you just aren’t into podcasts, I recommend you open up the transcript at the bottom of this post so you can read through the session instead. The transcript is already available for you.

Can’t wait to hear this one, Pat! Congrats on your continued successes!

  • http://www.zd.se/ John

Nice job. Always love your podcasts.

  • http://www.ivblogger.com Sheyi Shobayo

Pat, you are always wonderful. You are a leader when it comes to motivation and I will also like if you can start a blog on personal development, I am pretty sure you will touch more lives.

I also have dreams of working on a Hollywood set but that should be me as an Actor.

I am pretty sure the pay is awesome and can’t wait to read about it in your January income report.

    God bless man

  • http://optima-lifestyle.com Cristina Ansbjerg

The #1 reason why I love your podcast is because it’s always inspirational and motivational. No matter what you talk about. The passion in your voice and comments is always amazing.

  • http://optima-lifestyle.com Cristina Ansbjerg

Oh, and I’m looking forward to watching Crooked Arrows :D

    • http://www.ivblogger.com Sheyi Shobayo

Cristina, made a comment on your blog now and I will suggest you study Pat’s podcast on how to be everywhere. You need an incentive on your blog in order to make people subscribe!

“Pat on IMDB” … now I bet that wasn’t something you’ve imagine was in the cards when you got laid off a few years back =) Congrats dude!

  • http://www.englischtestonline.de Englischtest Online

How about LIKING that IMDB page on Facebook and Pat updating his profile there?
His contact page is still empty. Lots of opportunities …

    • Pat

It costs a money fee to build out the page on IMDB – even to just put an image on it, I believe.

      • http://www.englischtestonline.de Englischtest Online

Sounds like IMDB also knows about how to generate passive income :)

  • http://www.salmanahsan.com Salman Ahsan

Pretty good stuff Pat :) Congrats on your success

  • http://mikefrommaine.com Mike From Maine

I totally understand how you feel about trying to help other people. It’s rewarding when you help someone and they can make some sort of headway, but it’s impossible to help everyone.

  • http://peggybaron.com Peggy Baron

    That was inspirational all right!

Pat – were you the least bit nervous about jumping into this basically new arena, even though there were elements of what you already know how to do?

  • http://eclerstudios.net Pawel Bialecki

Ok, I enjoyed this session and I shared ;) Nice work, very inspirational. Can’t wait to hear more from you!

  • http://www.trovatten.dk Frederik Trovatten

    Pat’s IMDB profile =)?

    This sounds special..

    Hitting play button..

  • Kristoffer Broholm

Congratulations with your success Pat. I just wanted to thank you to add a Transcript as I feel like that actually makes me listen to your content faster. It’s almost a Tim Ferris way of looking at things, if your can read a 1hr podcast in 20 minutes then you’ve hacked 40 minutes off :-)

Not that I don’t enjoy listening to your show or anything, I just want to get to the good stuff when I listen to Podcasts and not neccesarily be entertained by a lot of fluff / filler.

  • http://www.yourlife-yourchoices.com Lenia

    Hi Pat,
Very nice job. It is the first audio I hear and I liked it a lot. Congratulations on your success!

cool, i played lacrosse for 10years. I didn’t even know about this movie until this podcast. I’m surprised the fanpage didnt have more likes as lacrosse is pretty diehard and growing fast. Sounds like a good movie. For facebook seems you could contact lacrosse fanpage admins to broadcast it for you and run super cheap FB ads to your fanpage…..heck even incentive people to like the page by doing a giveaway for some shirts of the movie or like a lacrosse helmet/stick used in the movie or something. anyways sounds cool.

    • Pat

All that stuff is planned – the movie is still 4 months out so there’s a ton of time (and money) left to be spent :)

We already have some contests lined up and will be doing some paid ads soon. Thanks!

  • http://incomepress.com Joey

it’s amazing how the movie industry is using the stuff that we as IM’ers do from the comfort of our own homes, and using it for their industry.

Just shows you that what we do is more powerful than you might think. Gotta love it ;-)

  • http://www.myhomestartup.com Ryan Krysiak

I don’t think it is said enough, but thank you so much for making these podcasts such high quality!!!
Makes it interesting to watch. (Even that silly intro makes it awesome!)

    Best,
    Ryan

  • http://youronline.biz Jacko

Excellent post I want to go Bollywood!

  • http://www.sparringmind.com/ Gregory Ciotti

Really cool Pat, on a smaller scale note, I’m directing the web strategy for a mayor running in my city, contact came through my small business web design/hosting business.

Goes to show the ultimate resume today can come from a blog showcasing what you know how to do!

    • Pat

Very cool Gregory! I love it, and your’e absolutely right!

  • http://www.extramoneyblog.com Sunil from The Extra Money Blog

wow Pat congrats. remember, if y’all ever need a token Indian guy in your movie, you know who to call ;)

  • http://top10tabletpcs.com Joe Morales

Great story and inspiring as usual. Keep the good job. Now you gotta update your profile image on IMDB since it’s empty right now hehehe. Congrats again PAt!

    • Pat

I would, although I believe it costs a monthly fee to update it, even just to include a picture. I’ll have to double check though. Thanks Joe!

  • http://www.seobasicsandstrategies.com TomL

Good stuff.. gotta take it one step at a time. Opportunities come all the time but its a question whether you have the experience and understanding to take advantage of them. That’s why taking massive action is key… and as long as you do the right thing (my opinion) then things start taking off.

    TomL

  • http://www.andrewsviewoftheweek.com Andrew Reynolds

Great post as usual. There is always that dilemma about who you can help and who you can’t or just don’t have time for. The trick is to figure out your limits and be honest with folks.

and I am really liking your “be everywhere” concept. Makes so much sense.

Got that coming out on a tee-shirt soon?

  • http://talesofwork.com kimanzi constable

You have definitely inspired me and I look forward to more podcasts, it’s the best podcast out right now!

  • http://www.noobstarter.com Gabe

Wow now that is cool. Looks like you’re doing a great job for the movie.
Hollywood Flynn, are you going to the red carpet event ;)?

  • http://www.strayblogger.com Nate

It’s crazy what kind of opportunities come to you from this blogging stuff. I have an authority blog in progress on my old college major… very in progress, but even still I’ve had job offers come in from people that have come across it online.

BTW maybe I’ve missed it already, but are you making a post about the results you’re getting from Build My Rank anytime soon? I’ve added it to my arsenal in the last month and unless something else I’m doing is starting to work like crazy, BMR is the shiznit.

Great podcast, but I really loved your final message about planting seeds. No one knows what you’re passionate about, what you’re an expert at, what you can do . . . unless you put it out there! The great thing about online publishing is that it’s getting easier, cheaper, and more powerful all the time.

What you said about not finding opportunities, but creating opportunities resonated with me. I’ve had a similar belief for years: “No one gives you your dream job. You create your dream job.”

This podcast came at the perfect time for me. I’ve been writing a travel blog for years, but lately I’ve been planning to launch a podcast and do videos. Thanks for the inspiration.

  • http://foxxr.com Brian Childers

You are right Pat. Just saw the trailer. Can’t wait to see this movie!

PS…what plugin are you using for comments. I like the click feature versus Captcha.

  • http://ifeelinggorgeous.com Seleema @ How To Look Younger

Wonderful Pat! So, so proud of you. I don’t know much about Lacrosse, but I’ll be taking my whole family to see it. The trailer is enticing!

Uh oh, Pat Flynn is on his way to an E-True Hollywood story!

  • http://www.brockstarlife.com/ Brockstar

Lacrosse movies seem to be hot right now. I just had a couple of songs I wrote make their way onto the soundtrack of another Lacrosse movie (called “A Warrior’s Heart”). Pretty cool stuff!

  • http://www.vast9.com Garish Wasil

Cheers Pat ! I think its you are the very first blogger contributing to Hollywood. And I am sure the Movie is going to be a hit, as there is a pro, marketing it in the backend :)

I just saw the trailer of CrookedArrows and It seems promising :)

  • http://www.justlearnchinese.com Grace

Pat, I have the feeling that the once the movie is released, you’ll need to give Bluehost an emergency call to add more dedicated servers to share the sharply increasing load of your blog, we’ll see…

Your passion keeps inspiring us bloggers to stay on our track to reach our dream …

Good luck with your movie adventure!

    Grace

  • http://recordingdrummerproducer.com craig zarkos

Super inspiring. Proof of the power of the internet to created relationships ( networking). I’ve made friends in the music biz all over the world that have turned into biz partners as well, still to this day I’m AMAZED when I’m sitting on SKYPE and working with a producer half way across the world. Looks like a very uplifting flick, and your kicking ass on the marketing of it is sparking a bazillion ideas!
congrats on checking one off the bucket list Pat!

  • http://www.jennybizz.com Jen

Great podcast, Pat! It’s so exciting to hear what you’ve been up to with the movie. I listened on my way to work today and it just reaffirmed by belief that if you are living your passion you will be rewarded!

  • http://www.mythemepages.com Jon Hawkins

Well, Pat “Crooked Arrows” looks like a great family friendly movie. I live in Baltimore,MD and around here we live and breath lax…

In fact, STX is sponsoring a Youth Lacrosse Festival in San Diego on Feb 11th and 12th….Here is the url to the site for the festival.

Wow! now you’re going to be in a movie! damn hahaha this lifestyle sure it’s a rockstar lifestyle, congratulations.

I used to work in a video producer and yeah, I don’t have what it takes for filming, I got damn bored there, in the end I bought a laptop mini and used it to read while on productions hahahaha

  • http://www.robstill.com Rob Still

Wow Pat, that was a great podcast. I watched everything on the Crooked Arrows youtube channel and it looks AWESOME! Way to go! Thanks and congrats.

  • http://jaredakers.com jared

Great podcast. Congrats. What a challenge and amazing experience for you I’m sure.

It’s great how the foundational knowledge you learn from what you’ve done here (SPI) can apply to so many different projects/niches/businesses.

I must say, that since hearing your “be everywhere” message, I really took that to heart. Since, my wife and I have started our own podcast to compliment the message from my site (it’s amazing how many people are downloading it!), in final phase of copy-editing my first print book, posting youtube videos more interacting more on twitter. Etc.

Crush It! and Thank You Economy were also valuable as well. Another good book I just read is the Millionaire Messenger.

OH, and just heard you mention Cliff R. I originally heard him on one of your first podcasts I think… He’s been great! And even gave our podcast a shout out on his episode (PodCastAnswerman.com) 245. That felt so great!

Something I also realized and learned from watching Gary V. is not getting so caught up on producing the best quality video for posting to Youtube. Yes, I’m a quality snob as well, but the process is just too long for creating amazing video all the time and was really limiting the “want” to post videos.

So I got a joby gorilla tripod and attache my iPhone to my passenger side sun visor in my car and just shoot video’s on my daily commute–or anywhere else. Edit them real quick when I get home with Reel Director App, and publish them right to Youtube from my phone. Easy peasy!

Thanks for all you do, blessings, and keep on keepin’ on!

  • Ger

Hey Pat, a note to say a big Irish ‘Go raibh mile maith agat’ to you for all the wicked content you publish online on all your different platforms. Really loving the Podcasts. I had a great 4 hour road trip yesterday catching up on some episodes. I updated my iPhone the day before so as to make sure I had all the latest ones too.
I’ve been reading your material for a while now but I find the Podcasts the best as I can take them anywhere and listen to them at a time that suits me.
I decided to comment on this episode as it resonated with me at the time. I really liked two words in particular – ‘Create Opportunity’.
I’ve been tossing the idea of an online business of some kind around in my mind for some time now. Indeed, this is what led me to your site initially. I don’t know for sure why I haven’t taken the action part of the process yet but I think its a fear of getting it wrong.
Anyway, enough whinging from me, its time for me to take that step and act on the opportunity and make it happen.
So, keep up the fantastic work you do, it is really inspiring!
    Slán go fóill.
