Hi Pat,

What a fantastic and useful series of articles! There is one aspect I don't think you've touched upon and i'd be curious to her your views on this. At what stage of a website or blog do you think it makes sense to launch an ebook - is there a number of visitors a day or email subscribers that you would aim for first? I am setting up a couple of websites now but also have great ebook ideas, and i was planning to first build up the blog and other useful informational parts of the websites, and then dedicate a month or two on the ebook. I am just thinking do you think it is better to wait for high traffic before launching, or do you think a great ebook itself drives traffic?

I know this is an "old" post, but I thought I'd add a bit about PDF security.

If you use eJunkie to distribute your eBook, they have a free security feature that automatically imprints the buyer's name and email address on each page of the eBook (presumably as a small footer). For most people, this would serve as a huge deterent to illegally distributing the book. After all, if they do, everyone - including YOU - will know who did it.

I know I wouldn't even think about pirating a book if I knew the whole world was going to have my name and email address if I did. (not that I would pirate a book anyway.)

Hi Pat,
Thanks for the inspiring posts. You've got my thinking about an eBook. Perhaps something on website marketing, since I could have a bit of credibility in this area.

You asked about security ideas for PDF documents. I have over 300 PDF's on my website that I created with Adobe Illustrator. Illustrator gives you the option to turn your text into "outline". That means that it's not text any more, and people can't highlight and copy your text. It would add some security.

What do you think?

Here's a link to an example:

Hey Pat.
Great job on the several posts you had so far. Looks like no one has commented in a long time, so I guess I'm the first one of the decade! Haha. Anyways, I really like the content you've had so far. I was thinking about writing an e-book about tips/pointers in competing in fantasy sports online. But, my biggest concern is this... I do not have a website, at the moment, and I wanted to build credibility. So, should I post an e-book on tips on fantasy sport tips for free, and then possibly make another e-book and sell that one? Let me know what you think.

Again, great job, and I'm eager to look at the next article.

I published my ebook as a PDF as well. It's simple to do and that eliminates the need for other software, making it easy for buyers to view the document.
