things-to-do-nowNo huge intro needed for this post. Here are 10 actionable items that you can do right now to improve your online business or blog:

1. Re-Evaluate Your Goals

On a piece of paper (yes – paper), write down where you want your business or blog to be a year from now. Think about the following when doing so:

  • Number specific items, such as:
    • earnings
    • traffic
    • sales
    • subscribers / followers
    • etc.
  • Non-number specific items, such as:
    • authority
    • design
    • happiness
    • lifestyle

So often, we get stuck in the routine of just doing things, that we forget exactly why we’re do what we’re doing. Re-evaluating your goals will give you that boost of energy you need to get things done, and possibly even help you realize that you need to do things a little differently to get to where you want to go. outsourcing-projects-for-succeddIn Tim Ferriss’ book The 4-Hour Work Week (aka, my 2nd Bible), he dedicates an entire section to VAs and the benefits of hiring virtual assistants to do almost any task for you. At first, I was reluctant to agree with the idea of outsourcing because I was always the one who wanted to do all of the work myself. But, after reading more about VAs and how they could help me, I soon realized the huge advantage I would have by making a VA a part of “my team”.

Now, understand that there are a lot of people out there who use VAs for almost everything they do. If there was a way a VA could cut up their steaks and feed it to them, they’d probably have them do that too. Tim gives an example of a man who asked his VA to “make up with his wife” after they had gotten into a little quarrel. The VA sent his wife an apology letter and some nice flowers. I think if I did that, my wife would be pissed…anyways, I digress. Click to continue…

You’re probably used to reading my monthly income reports, but I’ve never really talked about how much time I spend doing what I do. I’m sure you’re all interested, so that is what this post is specifically about.

As many of you already know, February 2009 was dedicated to wedding planning, my honeymoon, and moving into a new apartment. This left me little time to actually put into work. So, how much time did I actually spend doing work related to my online business in February? 10 whole hours. Click to continue…

After more than 24 hours of driving on the road, 14 hours of shredding Tahoe powder, and the many laughs and new memories with my homeboys, I’m finally back from my bachelor party. It was a long trip and I was a little worried because it was the first time that I was really going to be away from my home computer for a period longer than just one day. Although I was nervous because I usually check my email once an hour (an unhealthy online addiction equivalent to smoking cigarettes, I admit) I knew that since my business was online and passive, it would continue to run and process orders throughout the weekend, 24/7 without me.

Because this chart was so popular in one of my earlier posts, I’m going to show it to you again. This is what an online passive income business model looks like… Click to continue…

I just got back from a long weekend with my fiancee. We stayed at the San Luis Rey Mission in Oceanside, CA for a weekend long retreat for engaged couples who are soon to be married. I learned a lot of things about marriage preparation, such as how to argue (yes, how to argue), how to work together to make big decisions in our lives, as well as what we’ll need to make decisions about, such as where to spend our holidays, how to think about finances, and what our goals in life are.

Overall, the weekend was great, but I couldn’t help but start relating some of the information that I learned over the weekend to my business, which I will share with you now because I think it’s very sound advice. It all has to do with things that distract or take away from a relationship. In regards to making money, especially making money online – whether you’re blogging, writing ebooks or articles on eHow – these are things that waste your time. They may be obvious to you, but hear me out. Click to continue…

Hi, my name is Pat, and I have a problem. Actually, let me correct myself – I had a problem. Do you ever think about the money you spend, no matter when or where, as hours of work down the drain? When I was working 9 to 5, this was a huge problem for me.

Every time I’d spend money, I would calculate in my head how many hours of work it actually took to make that money, and usually I’d end up with a stomach ache or just plain depressed. For example, when I bought my iMac computer, I calculated that it would take me about 15 days of work to cover the costs after taxes. That’s half an entire month dedicated just for my computer. Then I’d think about how that would impact the rest of my budget and how I could possibly work overtime to make up some days – it was terrible. I literally got sick to my stomach. I was too worried about how much time I spent to even enjoy my new purchase. Click to continue…

In a previous post, I talked about how knowing and doing everything can be a major mistake for anyone working online. There’s absolutely no reason to waste time learning and doing things that other people can do for you in a shorter period of time, and probably with better results, no offense.

Write your outline first! The easiest and most beneficial thing that you will ever do to prepare yourself to easily crank out that ebook you’ve been thinking of writing for the past 3 months is to write yourself an outline.

It may seem like an obvious thing to do, but numerous people have emailed me asking how they should get started. We all have an urge to dive right into writing, but all too often after the first few pages – we get stuck. Follow the advice here to help build yourself the perfect outline foundation for your upcoming success. Click to continue…

My first full day of being laid off was absolutely a waste. I didn’t even leave the house or change out of my pajamas. Not because I was sad or depressed, but because I sat in front of my computer all day thinking of my next money making idea.

The problem with me is that when I start generating hundreds of ideas in my head, I don’t organize my thoughts. In general, things that are organized are successful. For me to have successful and organized ideas, I must find a way to organize the generation of those ideas in my head, before they are even thought through. I found that the best way to do this is to draw a mind map. Click to continue…
