So our first iPhone app, iPopit! was not a flop – but we don’t really consider it a success either.
Although our company, LOLer Apps, met it’s original goal of being able to outsource an entire iPhone application and sell it in iTunes (which was definitely NOT easy), our sales haven’t been as good as we had hoped. To give you an idea, iPopit! has been on sale for about 50 days, and we’ve sold exactly 500 units, grossing us a total of $319.41 (after apple’s cut).
We did put out a free, “lite” version that has limited features and advertisements on it, hoping to get people excited about it and buy the full version. Surprisingly, over 23,000 people downloaded it, and we’ve grossed $446.48, just from the advertisements (from Admobs, which kind of works like Google Adsense for mobile applications).
It’s kind of sad to think that our little “lite” version has earned us more than our full version. But, we’ve grossed $765.89 in less than 2 months, which isn’t bad at all. We’re still in the red with this application, because we did spend about $3000.00 to outsource it’s development. We’re not giving up on the iPhone just yet… Click to continue…
For the last couple of months I’ve been talking a lot about LOLer Apps, a company my friend and I started to outsource and develop applications for the iPhone. I’m very happy to announce that our very first application, iPopit! went on sale in the app store on April 30th!
iPopit! is a game we created that involves shaking the iPhone vigourously up and down so that the bottle or can of soda on the screen explodes. There are 3 levels + a bonus level that only gets unlocked if you do well in the other 3 levels. Record times get saved too. (You can read more about how iPopit! works here). The best part is not really playing the game yourself, but watching your friends play it. You can imagine why…
It’s been a learning process…a very long learning process, but to finally see our app on sale is such a wonderful feeling. Even if our sales don’t perform as well as we hope, just knowing that we had an idea and were able to execute it is very fulfilling.
That being said, we are doing a lot to try and get our app noticed and sold. There are maybe 30,000 iPhone apps available now, and if we were to just sit and do nothing to promote it, it wouldn’t get noticed, and it wouldn’t sell. Click to continue…
In our last post, I unmasked the mystery behind what I’ve been doing for the past few months, going into detail about one of the iPhone applications my partner and I created, as well as our LOLer Apps brand. I was quite pleased with the response, and have yet to hear any “that’s stupid!” type comments – so thank you!
I have, however, received many questions about the development process and costs associated with getting our application to turn into a reality. I plan to answer some of those questions here for you today.
It was our plan to document all of this stuff on our LOLer Apps homepage, which we still will (and go into far more detail so that anyone can get into this if they wanted to invest a little money into their idea), but I’ll go over the main points and some other things I’m guessing you have questions about right now. There are over 20,000 iPhone applications for sale in iTunes, and Apple is currently counting down the billionth app download. Yes billionth. So as you can see, if you’re making good iPhone applications, there is potential for earning a lot of money.
I’ve talked about iFart Mobile before and how well that app was doing. It has sold over 350,000 copies and has generated a revenue of about $245,000. This application has only been around since December.
iShoot, a tank shooting type game, generated over $600,000 in sales in just one month. Ridiculous. I’m sure there are plenty of other apps out there doing really well that just don’t show off their earnings to the public.
These are, of course, extreme cases – the ones we always hear about. I can almost guarantee that there are thousands of apps for sale that aren’t making a dime. This is just the nature of this kind of market. Some get noticed and go viral, while others never get noticed and just end up wasting space.
Well, it’s time for me to take a stab at it. Click to continue…
In my last post, I told you about how I was going to explore PPC Affiliate Marketing to earn more income online. Here, I’ll tell you about another idea that is currently underway as well – iPhone applications.
I presume you’ve heard of the iPhone. If not, you should crawl out from under that rock. Anyways, iPhone applications are selling like hotcakes. There are over 10,000 applications that iPhone users (over 10 MILLION of them) can download. Some of them are free, while others go for a small price, usually between $0.99 and $9.99.
So let’s see, if I create an iPhone app, sell it for $1.99, and just 0.5% (just HALF A PERCENT) of iPhone user’s buy it – that’s $10mil * .005 * 1.99 = ~$100,000. Sound too good to be true? Well, have you heard of the application so tastefully named: iFart? Click to continue…
