All Systems Go – Our iPhone App is Finally on Sale

ipopit-mainFor the last couple of months I’ve been talking a lot about LOLer Apps, a company my friend and I started to outsource and develop applications for the iPhone. I’m very happy to announce that our very first application, iPopit! went on sale in the app store on April 30th!

iPopit! is a game we created that involves shaking the iPhone vigourously up and down so that the bottle or can of soda on the screen explodes. There are 3 levels + a bonus level that only gets unlocked if you do well in the other 3 levels. Record times get saved too. (You can read more about how iPopit! works here). The best part is not really playing the game yourself, but watching your friends play it. You can imagine why…

It’s been a learning process…a very long learning process, but to finally see our app on sale is such a wonderful feeling. Even if our sales don’t perform as well as we hope, just knowing that we had an idea and were able to execute it is very fulfilling.

That being said, we are doing a lot to try and get our app noticed and sold. There are maybe 30,000 iPhone apps available now, and if we were to just sit and do nothing to promote it, it wouldn’t get noticed, and it wouldn’t sell.

Here’s what we have so far:

Submitting to iPhone App Review Sites

There are a lot of iPhone app review sites that will do an honest review on their blog or even on youtube. Before our app was approved, we prepared ourselves by compiling a list of every single review site, so we could easily and quickly submit our review application, along with a promo code. Promo codes are given out by apple so people can download your app for free. You get 50 of them for each version of your app, so we’re using our first batch for review sites to gain exposure. It’s only been a day, so we don’t really expect to see any reviews of iPopit! just yet.

Our YouTube Video/Commercials

About a month ago, both for fun and for marketing purposes, we filmed a little video to promote iPopit. We wrote a script, drew a storyboard, found a location and gathered a bunch of our creative friends to put together a really fun video. It’s up on YouTube right now for everyone to see.

Just so you know, before you click the link below to view it on YouTube, there are some PG-13 moments, so if you think you might be grossed out, don’t click the link below. After watching the video, you can see the marketing angle we’re using, which we hope will generate some kind of buzz. I hope you like it! (Please leave a comment and rate on YouTube if you do!)

Our YouTube Video Contest

Related to the video above, we’re also holding a contest and giving away $1000.00 to the funniest, most creative and entertaining video using our iPopit! app. If you have time, please check out the contest page for details, and please if you have the time – enter the contest! You could win $1000.00!

Our iPopit! Video Contest

We’re also promoting the contest on various film/editing websites to generate some steam on that too. You can see the link to our contest on OnlineVideoContests.com too. Hopefully, entered submissions (which are posted on YouTube by the creator), will generate more buzz about our app and ultimately help our sales and expand our brand.

Social Networking and Blog Marketing

We’re using a lot of methods, such as twitter, facebook and our blogs to help promote our application and brand as well. We have over 1600 twitter followers, a fan page on facebook, howfastcanyoupopit.com (the iPopit! homepage), and our LOLer Apps website, where we talk about how we outsourced our applications and got them approved and on the iPhone.

We’re hoping our tweeple will retweet our tweets (that sounds funny), and people like you will help us out too by telling our story and our experiment for another form of passive income, one that not many people who don’t know how to code or program try to conquer.

Our Next Applications

Our next app should be out in the next week or two. Hopefully there will be some cross selling within the LOLer Apps brand, and everything just grows exponentially. This is in an ideal world, and of course, we can never know what really will happen until it does.

Our next app is supposed to be our most promising, and probably has the most entertainment value of the 3 we have in development (or developed) so far. I’ll give out more details about this one – but we promise it’s G rated.

Thank you all for your help. In case you’re wondering, you can visit iPopit! and see it on sale in itunes by clicking the button below. If you have an iPhone and want to have some fun shaking your iPhone (or watching your friends shake your iPhone), feel free to check it out. Cheers everyone!

Very impressive . . .

How did you find the programmer? I ask because if I had ideas for an app– the stumbling block would be getting the programming done.

Pat I think the video is excellent. Professional but still has an amateur look to it, and you don’t mention the product or site till the end. It provides entertainment value without looking like a pushy commercial. I have sent it around myself to others to check out.

I really like the whole marketing plan involved, I would like to get in the iphone app development biz as well, seems like a great opportunity and a lot of fun. Especially since 21 Mil iphones/itouches have been sold and that will only grow. Not sure what the type of expenses for everything are, but like the integrated plan.

I don’t have an iphone yet. Waiting for the new one to come out this summer, and then will win the contest.

Great job Pat. If I had an iPhone, I would be all over your product! The video is great. Looking forward to seeing your numbers come in over the next few months. You are an inspiration to us all.
