A Fun Fable From Pat – The Two Eggs

Lindsay from Writing For Your Wealth announced a contest last week about writing a fable (under 300 words) that is appropriate for your blog’s audience. Here is my 156 word entry that I would love to share with you.

The Two Eggs

Once upon a time, lay two nested eggs.

One egg says to the other, “It must be nice to be hatched. Do you think it will be nice?”

Silence.

Again, the same egg utters, “I wonder what it’s like to fly. Do you ever wonder that’s like?”

Again, no answer.

Once more, the egg cries, “I’m sick of being in here! Aren’t you sick of it too?!”

Nothing.

Two dawns later, the egg’s shell finally begins to crack. It slowly opens and reveals a runty little bird. It’s eyes are barely open to see it’s new world.

The tiny bird looks around, only to see an empty eggshell and a note attached:

Dear Brother,

I busted my way out of my shell a few days ago. I was just sick of being in there. It’s so much better out here! Once Mom and I come back with food for you, I’ll teach you how to fly.

Which Egg Are You?

Are you the egg that wonders and takes action? Or, are you the egg that wonders and just waits for something to happen to you instead?
