As many of my long time followers will know, I love to announce what I’m up to here on the blog. It’s one of my “tricks” for getting me to take action and reach my goals because I feel like if I tell you what I’m going to do, I’ll do whatever I can not to let you down.
In 2010, it worked for starting my newsletter, finally delivering a podcast, my record traffic numbers, the Niche Site Duel and P90x (among other things) – and I’m sure it’ll work in 2011 as well.
Some things in 2011, naturally, will happen unplanned, but I have a lot of great things on the horizon I’d like to share with you today. Per my latest podcast episode, Mind Hacks, Physical Hacks and Work Hacks For Better Productivity And Getting Things Done, I’ll be creating S.M.A.R.T. goals which, as a reminder, are goals that are: Click to continue…
It might seem like a weird time of the year to write about autoresponder email messages, especially with everyone else talking about their goals for 2011 and what they hope to accomplish come the new year. But in my case, I feel it’s appropriate because it’s been exactly one year since I introduced my own newsletter and autoresponder series for the Smart Passive Income Blog. One year since I began building an email list.
As many of you know, at the same time I also introduced my free eBook, eBooks the Smart Way, as a “lead magnet” (that’s what the pros call it) to hopefully entice people to sign up, and as I usually do with everything else I’ve got my hands in, I’m happy to share my results with you. I can’t believe the Holiday went by so fast and 2011 is just around the corner! I’m still settling back into the routine of things (and digesting) before I come back from “break” on Wednesday, but I wanted to share this short but powerful guest post by someone who I’m very fortunate enough to call a friend in the Blogging World, someone successful who I really look up to – David Risely of DavidRisley.com. We recently met at Blog World Expo and I am confident when I say he’s one of the nicest and smartest guys in this business.
Here, David talks about a missing ingredient that most bloggers (including myself at times) miss or forget when trying to build our lists and grow our email subscriber count.
Enjoy!
I’ve talked many times about the importance of list building (and so has pretty much everybody else). The most common way to entice people to get onto the list is to give something away. Usually a free e-book.
However, there is a vital element in offering that free ebook that most bloggers just miss entirely, and it is costing them subscribers like crazy. Not doing this one thing will lead these unfortunate bloggers to think nobody wants their free e-book, when that isn’t always true. Click to continue…
So, it’s Christmas Eve and I decided to write you a poem – partly because I’m super busy planning for my son’s first birthday and Christmas at the same time, and partly because I thought it would be something quick and fresh for you to read during the holiday. And, I haven’t written a poem since…well…a very long time ago, and I thought it would be fun.
It was. Enjoy! Click to continue…

In this session of the Smart Passive Income Podcast, I talk about exactly how I manage to work on so many projects at the same time, stay focused and get things done!
I’ve divided the podcast into three different segments, which include:
- Mind Hacks – The mindset of how we work and what we do is probably the most important thing about staying productive and on the right track. I go into great depth about some of the things I do to stay laser focused and motivated.
- Physical Hacks – There are a number of things you can do that relate to your physical body that can have a dramatic effect on how much you get done. Small, simple and free changes that can really make a big difference.
- Work Hacks – Here I talk about work related things you can do to help boost productivity, which includes a number of different tools and resources that I use.
Realize that I’m not saying you should do exactly what I do – that’s never the case here on the blog. But, I give you examples of what I’ve found works for me to hopefully give you a place to start (and some inspiration too!) to help you really take things to the next level in 2011 and crush it!
Thanks for your support everyone, and enjoy a safe and healthy holiday!
Oh, and if you’re interested in working with Tyrone and I in an exciting, intimate and very limited coaching program geared towards building a successful, high ranking and profitable niche site, check out NicheSiteCoaching.com and watch the short video there.
The deadline to apply is December 31st, 2010 at 11:59pm EST.
Cheers!

“The key to getting started down the right path of being remarkable in anything is to simply act with the intention of being remarkable.”
This is a quote by Chad Fowler, CTO of InfoEther, in Tim Ferriss’s new book, The 4-Hour Body. Tim highlights Chad because after being obese for over a decade, he lost 70 pounds in less than a year, which is truly remarkable.
Although the parts of the book I’ve read so far are mainly about achieving extraordinary and amazing results with our bodies (like rapid weight loss, superhuman strength, holding our breath for 5 minutes, etc.) there are a lot of wonderful gems, like the quote above, which can be applied to other things in our lives, like our businesses and blogs. I earn a decent amount of passive income each month from articles that I’ve written on revenue sharing content sites – primarily from eHow.com. I’m currently generating over $300 a month from 150 articles that I wrote way back in November of 2008, which is probably the most passive of all of my income streams.
Unfortunately, eHow had closed its writer’s compensation program earlier this year. I had done some extensive research to see what the next best site would be, and I confidently chose InfoBarrel. I felt it had the most growth potential and it seemed to have a staff that really wanted to take care of its content providers, and at the same time make sure the quality of the articles was controlled. I’m on a mini-vacation taking advantage of the snow that just recently hit the slopes here in Southern California, so I won’t be around to answer comments until later this week. I wanted to throw up a “what I’ve been reading lately” type of post which I normally do every couple of months, but I thought it would be cool to put a spin on it. Enjoy this post and pray I don’t hurt myself while I’m snowboarding!
We all want to write popular posts, the ones that drive massive traffic to our blogs and produce a ton of interaction within our audience. Some posts we write are obviously going to be more popular than others, but what is it that really makes a post popular?
To answer this question lets take a closer look at some of the most popular posts from blogs around the web and see if we can make some connections.
Below you’ll find 3 popular posts from each of the blogs listed below. Really take some time to see if you can find any commonalities between them. Click to continue…
As many of you know, in addition to The Smart Passive Income brand I also have an iPhone application company, LOLer Apps. We currently have 27 applications live in iTunes right now which are passively generating a decent chunk of change each month, as outlined in my monthly income reports.
Whenever I chat with people about my various businesses, my iPhone app business is the one that intrigues them the most. Maybe it’s because it’s the “hot” thing at the moment, or maybe because it’s something that they can see doing themselves too.
I’ve written about iPhone apps before (see 5 Things You Must Know About Creating Your Own iPhone Apps), but I’d like to expand a bit on some of the money making strategies one can take when developing their own iPhone apps (or apps for any other platform too). Click to continue…
When I was at Blog World Expo a couple of months ago, I was lucky enough to sit in on a presentation by Darren Rowse of Problogger.net. During the session he explained that one of the vital keys of successful blogging is to “love your readers to death”.
I thought this was a fantastic way to summarize the ideal relationship between a blogger and his or her audience because if you take care of your people, your people will take care of you.
I think we all have an idea of what it means to love your readers to death, but really how does one do so?
Here’s my quick take. Click to continue…
